20 Jul 07 - 10:12 PM (#2107974) Subject: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: GUEST,Lakeman Does anyone know of an ONLINE AUDIO for Harry Lauder's, "Keep Right On To The End Of The Road." I don't need to be told that you can get the BFC singing it, or that it's available on a CD, I simply need to hear the melody again. I've forgotten most of it and my search has brought up nothing. Thanking you all in anticipation |

20 Jul 07 - 11:01 PM (#2107988) Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: EBarnacle There was a source thread a couple of years ago for Sir Harry and other older music hall performers, including many of the story tellers. |

There are about 10 sites with various soccer(?) team fans in various stages of sobriety 'humming' the melody. It may be enough to refresh your memory. |

21 Jul 07 - 12:24 PM (#2108202) Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Tattie Bogle It used to be Ipswich Town's football song back in the good old days in the 60s when Alf Ramsey took us to the League Div 1 championship (no premier league then, so that was TOP!)Don't think it is any more though. |

Or I could sing it down the phone to you if you PM me! |

21 Jul 07 - 04:15 PM (#2108316) Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Rasener This song was written by Sir Harry Lauder shortly after his son was killed in action in World War I. The Birmingham City FC fans sing this song during their matches and has been sung at St Andrews since the mid 1950's and is still popular today. Except with Aston Villa supporters :-) |

The song was " I Wish You Were Here Again" and he dedicated it to all mothers and fathers who had lost their sons - words here |

Come on guys. Help out or stay out. |

Help out or stay out. << Have you ever thought that some of us mudcatters are in actual fact keeping your thread at the top of the pile until somebody can provide you with what you want. In between times we are feeding information about the song. Ungrateful or what? I personally have done quite a bit of searching trying to get you an answer. You can get about one minute on this link http://www.amazon.com/Love-Lassie-Sir-Harry-Lauder/dp/samples/B000000X1R/ref=dp_tracks_all_1/104-4339427-6079131#disc_1 |

I also went searching out of interest, but won't be looking for you again, Lakeman. Let him use his own search engines! |

24 Jul 07 - 12:05 AM (#2109765) Subject: RE: Keep Right On To The End...Lauder audio From: Bee-dubya-ell Now, now, now... Lakeman, stop being a thread Nazi! This is a discussion forum, not strictly a question and answer forum. It's extremely common and widely accepted for a thread that starts out as a simple request for a bit of information to evolve into a discussion of closely related issues. You don't own this thread. If your original question has been answered to your satisfaction, take that answer and do what you will with it. There's nobody holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read any further posts to this thread. |

25 Jul 07 - 01:54 AM (#2110651) Subject: Lyr Add: THE END OF THE ROAD (Harry Lauder) From: Jim Dixon Copied from A Celebration of Sir Harry Lauder: THE END OF THE ROAD William Dillon and Harry Lauder, 1924. 1. Ev'ry road thro' life is a long, long road, fill'd with joys and sorrows too. As you journey on, how your heart will yearn for the things most dear to you. With wealth and love 'tis so, But onward we must go. CHORUS: Keep right on to the end of the road. Keep right on to the end. Tho' the way be long, let your heart be strong. Keep right on round the bend. Tho' you're tired and weary, still journey on, till you come to your happy abode, Where all the love you've been dreaming of will be there at the end of the road. 2. With a big stout heart to a long steep hill, we may get there with a smile; With a good kind thought and an end in view, we may cut short many a mile. So let courage ev'ry day Be your guiding star alway. |

15 Mar 08 - 10:33 AM (#2289049) Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: GUEST,Jarvis Hey, has anyone got a MIDI of this? I've had a good hunt on the internet but come up with nothing. I'm after the MIDI as, strange as it may sound, I'm going to put together an instrumental Metal/Rock cover, and I'd prefer to get the notes spot on rather than try and do it by ear. Thanks much if anyone can help! |

18 Mar 08 - 08:41 PM (#2292194) Subject: RE: Tune Req: The End of the Road (Harry Lauder) From: GUEST,Jarvis I was asking for the MIDI as I was going to upload it into Guitar Pro and get the correct notes the quick and easy way, ha! As for it being a heavy metal treatment, it's more of a Rock/Metal tribute to Birmingham City for my solo project. It's nothing serious, and I'm certainly not going to attempt to cover the whole thing, just the main melody of the chant we use at fortress St. Andrews! Sorry if anyone thinks I'm commiting an act of blasphemy! lol. Anywho, I'll attempt to work out the notes by ear at some point. Thanks for your help, Tattie. |
