BS: Photo hosting site - which to choose?

I have been using Yahoo Photos as an on-line site for storing my pictures (I like to have them on-line somewhere in addition to on my hard drive). I've been happy with Yahoo Photos - it's free, you can do a little bit of editing (brightening, cropping, etc.) and it's easy to order prints. But, they took over Flickr and everybody has to find a new 'home' for their pics by September. I have some photos on Flickr and I don't like it very much. The uploads seemed to take a long time and there was no editing capacity, also it's hard to put the photos in the order you want them in. Does anybody have recommendations for other photo hosting sites?

Re Picasa- Been fairly happy with Picasa 2 on my computer. Anything really good I transfer to Photoshop.
I have a Lacie mobile hard drive, where I put everything as backup, so don't use anything online. Are there any advantages to using an online storage outfit?

I will be interested in seeing any recommendations.

try myopera.com
you don't have to use Opera to use it. Very easy and generous

"Are there any advantages to using an online storage outfit?"

We use online storage so far away family can see our pics withput having to e-mail them. We only put some out there, keep all the rest on the hard drive with CD's as back up.

Yahoo worked well for us, just moved them to flickr photos today so don't know how well we will like it.

I like Photobucket. There is editing there. There are also free programs to trim your photos that are very simple (they don't have the power of Photoshop, but they're not intended to). I moved my Yahoo photos over to Flickr but I haven't gone in to see how they look. Lorcan Otway (InOBU) has some photos of his up at flickr that he linked to (BS: Lorcan's photos - Midtown NYC explosion) that look marvelous. I think that has largely to do with the talent of the photographer.

Picasa is both a free online service and a free program you can download to manage your photos locally, it has a number of editing functions and a few clever tricks. You can upload a whole folder in a couple of clicks. On-line you can make a google map and connect your photos to points on it so that when friends click on the point they see your photo and comments.

Mary, it may be that the photos you are trying to download are large and this is why it takes a long time to download, I reduce the size of my photos before putting them on the flickr site, it is then pretty quick. 640 x 480 pixels is fine for internet viewing.
Cheers, Lucy

Another thing about myopera is, all one has to do to view a larger version of a photo is to click on it, then another click right on it will enlarge it even more.

A note of caution, though, on the main photos page, thumbnails of popular photo pages may contain *adult* images! Hadn't seen that until tonight.:-)
