On July 28 in 1956(also a good year for music) Jim Laker took seven Australian wickets for 8 runs in 22 balls. I have just been reading about this in the Guardian. And it happened at Old Trafford(Manchester). Now, that's what I call cricket, wish I'd been there.

I thought you were going to talk about Freddie Laker

Now I don't like cricket but at least the scoring is sensible, unlike tennis which is just plain daft. It's funny but tennis fanatics get quite upset if I joke about the scoring!

I do remember the Aussies complaining that the wicket was made to order for his spin bowling.

Of course it was ard, that is all part and parcel of a test match series, the home team gets to select the grounds and can state exactly how they want the wicket prepared at each ground.

Come on ard, remember the old adage:
"And when the one great scorer comes to write against your name
He writes not whether you were a jolly good sport
But whether you won the Ashes".

You are showing your age there Greg. I am barely old enough to recall the last time that England took seven Aussie wickets in a test series. I hear that the visiting Indians have been giving England a good spanking this weekend. There is something comforting about the return of normality!

Is anyone old enough to remember the dust bowl Laker and Lock bowled into, the groundsman was hailed as much a winner as the bowlers.
