BS: It took me 9 years but.....

I finally went to England and met one Mick Lowe!

Now, I know neither of us have posted to Mudcat in a few years time, but perhaps some of you long time "regulars" will remember our names. LOL

We had a GREAT time in the all too short week I was there. And only 1 day of rain, starting mid-day Friday and ending mid-day Saturday. (No, that doesn't include the tears when I had to board the plane.)

Anyway....just needed to share this bit of news with someone.

Mary

You were lucky - Gloucestershire rain day was a week.

Mr Red--yes, I guess I was lucky re the rain. Especially since I wasn't planning on going swimming during my trip.

Big Mick--you're definintely on the top 10 list of Mudcatters I'd like to meet.

Cheers!

Mary

That's so great! I've met several mudcatters by now, and none have been creeps yet ... well, not *too* creepy...

That's great to hear, Mary! Nice to see you back, too! Tell Mick Lowe to come by sometime, too, will you please? Miss you both and a few others, too.

My first and (so far) only trip to England and Ireland, like Mary's, was also in August, and we also enjoyed sunny weather, no rain at all for two weeks until the morning of our departure.

The specific August in question was in 2004, and our trip coincided with a record-breaking Europe-wide heat wave. Of course, to us New Orleanians, the temperatures were unremarkable and the humidity was a bit lower than what we're accustomed to back home ~ but for our hosts and for the entire local population, the heat was quite exotic and nearly unbearable.

I did come away with the nagging doubt that our trip had any relation to what life in that region is really like, even in summertime. One would think that a fair measure of rain and dismal skies would have provided a truer perspective. Of course, weather or no [sic], the people/scenery/food/drink/music etc. were all wonderful, and would have been just as awesome in any climactic conditions
