02 Aug 07 - 11:48 PM (#2117960) Subject: RE: BS: Any Annual Mudcat Gatherings? From: Sorcha Well, there is the Getaway on the US East Coast every fall. Look for Getaway threads. Euro Gathering, usually over May Day weekend somewhere in Europe. Was Yorkshire Gathering, but not enough could attend in 07, so it was cancelled. PM Mrs. Duck about the future. Rainy Camp and Sunny Camp, on the US West Coast usually draw quite a few Catters. |

From: Joe Offer The official annual Mudcat Gathering is the Getaway (click) of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington (FSGW), which happens over an October or November weekend in Maryland. There's also usually a gathering in the U.S., and on the European Continet. There are several other gatherings here and there. -Joe- -Joe Offer- |

I usually start the thread a month or so beforehand, then folks decide whether they will be there, where we can meet ... In 2007, some of us were there for the picture, others missed out sandra |

03 Aug 07 - 03:31 AM (#2118054) Subject: RE: BS: Any Annual Mudcat Gatherings? From: Liz the Squeak There is the Scottish Mudgather in October, where Mudcatters from all around are taking over a Scottish hotel and giving the landlord one hell of a weekend! There may still be the odd space left, if not, there are other places to stay nearby. PM Giok for details. This is the first Scottish weekend we've had, but hopefully it won't be the last (depends on what we do to the hotel!!). There is the Portaferry Gathering in February, that's in Northern Ireland, is known as Loughstock as it's at the bottom of a lough (Irish lake) and has been going for about 5 years now... Then there's the Eurogathering, the first weekend in May - that's a moveable feast across Europe and depends on which schmuck where will organise it. Otherwise... it's getting together at commercial festivals. Hope to see you at one! LTS |

03 Aug 07 - 07:02 PM (#2118659) Subject: RE: BS: Any Annual Mudcat Gatherings? From: Bill D Note: The Getaway sorta became the first, and best known, semi-official gathering because of its history and proximity to Mudcat Central (Max's place) in Pennsylvania. Some of the founding members of Mudcat had been attending the Getaway as a regular event of FSGW for 20-30 years, and there are a lot of 'folkies' on the East coast of the US....and it is the easiest place in the US for the UK members to get to. I am glad that other gatherings have sprung up due to Mudcatters wanting to meet, but unable to get to the USA east coast.....but I am VERY glad I am fortunate enough to live close and have the chance to meet so many good folks I 'know' before they arrive. |
