to try to keep the program planning thread clear...

We are in a constant struggle to balance the most desirable qualities for a camp...cost, heat, capacity, dates, food, sleeping arrangements, spaces for concerts/workshops and accessibility for folks with handicaps of various sorts....we ALWAYS sacrifice one or two.
With West River, we have gained heated venues and flat, accessible spaces and sacrificed a bit in food (so far) and capacity & sleeping arangements. Next year, we get October date again....but there will always be small bedrooms with a lot of bunk beds, making capacity 'probably' around 170-180.

I wish it were easier...but those who climbed those hills in cold weather at Ramblewood may take some solace.

Just out of curiosity, do they allow people to set up tents?

From: Bill D

Jeri..Charlie Baum said last year that RVs were ok, but I find no answers anywhere specific to tents. There is LOTS of nice, flat space, but we'll have to check on whether they allow tents. (Next year we are back to October, so it might be even more relevant then.)

Tents are fine. There's lots of flat space.
Just find someplace free of goose droppings. (And Andy at the center warned me that the geese can be fiercely territorial, so there's a warning when you choose your spot.)
No discount for tenters, though, because the camp still charges FSGW.

Just as a matter of interest, I have a nice large tent...rain flap, zippers, stand up in the center.....if anyone really wants to try camping. I know some folks have warm sleeping bags and do this sort of thing. (we had a couple of folks pitch tents at Ramblewood several years ago, and they seemed to survive ok.)

Lest we forget:

A reminder to those inclined to throw caution to the wind, dress up in silly costumes and participate in the Saturday Night Ladies of the Club traditional (3rd year) extravaganza. This year I will be Costume Mistress (I did enjoy blowing up the boys last year). But I will be in the audience.
The theme is 50s Folk/Doo Wop
Take a traditional ballad and doowop it.

Who will head up the silliness?
Who's in?
Reminder to Carly and Linda. In the heat of the moment last year you agreed to participate and you will be held to it.
Who's writing a song for the event?

Remember time is limited so it will be one song in full or several snippets or a combination thereof.

Costumes: Poodle Skirts, 50s prom dresses, 50s tuxes, James Dean look anything. Anyone got a classic Chevy for a stage prop? Or a reasonable facsimile thereof?

Another thought - dress as your character might have in 1957. Sam Hall in a DA at the gallows. Barbara Allen in a poodle skirt.

Do we need a full Mudcat Song Challenge ??

Hi robinia
If you go to the top of this page, under the title of this thread you'll see 5 links that will help you to get a feel for this years up coming Getaway. What I copied & pasted below will give you help on your questions but I'm sure some one will be better at directly answering them & I believe there's a good bit of space left. Hopefully we'll see you there.
It is a very welcoming group.
If you google "FSGW Getaway" you'll also be taken to the Folk Society of Greater Washington DC's site where there's also info.

Good luck

Genie--

We're not quite ready to handle registration for the 2007 FSGW Getaway just yet. The costs will be about the same as last year--and depend on (1) how much of the weekend you stay for, (2) whether you're a member of (or join) FSGW, (3) if you're a youngster or full-time student; in any case, the nost expensive possibility last year was less than $190 (a non-FSGW-member adult staying through Monday morning breakfast in a lower bunk). The nearest airport is probably BWI, and it has lots of relatively cheap flights. DCA is also pretty near, and IAD is acceptably close, especially if you hook up with an FSGW member for transportation. There is no public transit to the camp, but ride-sharing is a real likelihood, and lots of Mudcatters flew into BWI and carpooled from there.

We should have registration information finalized and a form posted sometime in August--certainly by Labo(u)r Day.

WYSIWYG is in Northernmost Pennsylvania and hasn't made it to the Getaway--yet. (Maybe this year, hint, hint. :-) ) However, there are at least 5 or 6 dozen Mudcatters who live in the DC area--heck, there are more than a dozen within a kilometer of my house. In fact, the presence of so many local Mudcatters is part of the reason we thought about inviting Mudcatters from far away in the first place.

I always WANTED to wear a poodle skirt. My Nana, who would have made such things, decided to make me (and my mother) grey circular skirts with crystal raindrops and little umbrellas instead. My mother didn't wear hers! I sort of liked mine, but I WANTED A POODLE SKIRT! And now I get to make one myself, or scour the vintage places in Takoma Park MD.

So of COURSE I'm in. What, miss the chance to appear in some silly costume? And forever on Youtube? But I don't want to be leader of the pack - just a gal in the chorus. Hopefully it won't be 95 degrees in the room this year!

I don't think I have anything left from the sixties, but I was only 7 when they started so...it would've been pedal-pushers or levis and cowboy boots anyway until '69 or so and I ain't putting my feet in those narrow-toed things ever again!**bg**

Didja notice all of the new poodle skirts that seller has on ebay are all made for 2X and 3X; guess they must know their market.:-)

Now, pedal pushers (which I wore as a carhop circa 1956) I could still manage to come up with.

Kat, hey, poodle skirts -- if they ever looked good on anyone -- really never looked all that hot on girls over about a size 8 (in 1950s sizing) anyway.

(Slight tangent: Back in the day, I don't even remember any such thing as a "Size 1" or "Size 3." A "Size 4" was pretty teensy.)

In my own, admittedly personal opinion.....We really should discuss and/or negotiate a bit about the 'production numbers', as I know I heard a wide range of opinions last year....several from local folks who do not even read Mudcat and were ummmmm...'startled' by the direction and length of the 'event' *grin*

We have always had some occasional workshops, dances, impromptu 'happenings'..etc, that strayed from the general theme. With all the talent and eclectic folks we see, it is inevitable.

This is by NO means meant to be a 'cease & desist' order...I don't HAVE that power....nor do I assume automatically that my feelings are in the majority....but we obviously have some 'mixed' reactions worth mulling over.

What think ye?

01 Sep 07 - 01:29 PM (#2138433)
Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2
From: Big Mick

I'm glad you are bringing this up, Bill. I must admit, and I hope my very good friends understand, to being a bit concerned about how these productions are growing in scope. When the women did the "Ladies of the Night" skit a few years back, it was fun because of its spontaneous nature, and the personalities involved fit right in. But we need to go back a few years and remember (and be sensitive to) the misgivings that many FSGW'ers had about the influx of Mudcatters. They were concerned about the Getaway keeping its essential nature as a gathering of trad oriented Folk Music enthusiasts. Some felt like they were being taken over, invaded so to speak, by us. My opinion then, and now, is that was hogwash and that we Mudcatters were very inclusive (if they felt left out it was because they simply didn't join in), injected fresh takes on the music into the mix, not to mention the cash and help we brought to the fray. Our involvement brought new artists (such as Jed) and re-interested older artists (such as Rick) in the event. Our involvement had a great deal to do with overseas Mudcatters coming, as well as folks like KT, Ebbie, LEJ, and many others. Some of us have become FSGW'ers (like myself) and very proud of that membership.

Having said that, it still seems very important to me that we, as Mudcatters, be very sensitive to those concerns and not exacerbate them. There is a fine line between "spicing up" and event, and taking it over and straying from its basic intent and purpose. I hope we are all well intentioned enough to give this some serious thought as we make our plans. It is, after all, a folk music gathering.

FWIW, I love us doing our thing at the Friday night potluck. That is always so very much fun, and the good feelings at seeing old friends, and welcoming old friends never met, is so wonderful.

Let's keep this discussion positive, OK friends? I don't post these comments to be inflammatory, rather to provoke some thoughts about the basic nature of what we are doing. This is THE gathering of the year for many of us. Let us make sure we are not doing anything to alienate ourselves or wear out our welcome.

Amos,
Got the idea from Mick - August 31 7:18 PM. Did you really think that Mick wouldn't kiss and tell?

Bill,
Your points are well taken. The theme is folk doowop and the budding composers (at least volunteering last year) were FSGW people who had doowopped some traditional ballads like Barbara Allan. Charlie Baum has wisely scheduled The Ladies as the last act in past years so that it does not detract from other performers.

Look carefully at Youtube - at least half of the menagerie is FSGW ladies. There would have been more but we ran out of costumes. Couldn't get any FSGW men to agree - remember Bill? heh heh

This year, I am in the audience. Tinker says she is willing to coordinate. Jacqui is ready to help with costumes. Should be very creative and fun. And a little black leather eye candy can't hurt.

Pondering.

Those of us galumping around in inflated horses had a grand time making fools of ourselves last year. However, I was very aware that the enthusiam of many in the audience did not match our own. There were more than a few stunned and incredulous faces looking back at us from the rows of chairs.

I was in the audience for "All Around My Hat." My own reaction to it was that it was planful, choreographed, and somewhat rehearsed. The number of people in the cast was appropriately scaled to the space and the event, and the spirit of it was in sync with the Getaway. I was definitely entertained. I suspect that last year, many in the audience experienced the 'production' as simply startling and chaotic.

We know that Bill is very involved with the active membership of FSGW, those folks in the DC area who regularly attend the song circles, open mikes, house concerts, etc. He is wonderfully tactful. I think he is trying to tell us that many people in the audience last year were not particularly amused by our antics.

Which is another good excuse for me to avow that I ain't wearin' no poodle skirt.

Thanks for the clarification, Sins. I had missed Mick's remark. If you recall he was making frequent visits to a certain bureau drawer with a bottle of good bourbon in it back at that time, so it is not surprising his memories have sort of run together and gotten confused, like a bad dream just before a bad hangover.

I think someone did try to French kiss him, but it sure was not me as I retired long before him. Remember he had a certain, um, difficulty entering and exiting his pony costume. Mebbe Kendall? And there were a lot of FSGW'ers who had been absolutely wowed by his baritone, singing "Ghost Riders'. so I guess it might have been one of those fayre lydies. I dunno.

Like all good ideas, there is a fine line between pushing the limits and breaking the box. The fact that there wasn't an actual stage, and the number of people who really, really, really wanted to participate up to the last minute added to the confusion.

If someone can produce ONE song that combines tradtional song and dop wop style, I have no doubt it can be arranged in a way that will be less confusing and chaotic, but still fun.

Although I have no interest in the Doo=wop festivities, I have no objection to them--as long as they don't dominate the Getaway the way they seem to have dominated these threads.

Dick, so far in THIS thread, ("these threads" - you meant this one thread, right?) you've contributed:

"Maybe there should be a separate Getaway for Doo Wop?"
and
"Dammit. I remember back when the Getaway was about folk music."
and
"Just for clarity's sake--
Although I have no interest in the Doo=wop festivities, I have no objection to them--as long as they don't dominate the Getaway the way they seem to have dominated these threads."

So all YOU'VE talked about is doo-wop. It's dominating the thread because it's what people, including yourself, want to talk about. If that's not accurate, what was it you meant to be discussing?

I'm not that fond of doo-wop and becoming increasingly less so over time, but t's pointless to criticize people for not talking about what I want to talk about it, if I'm not even talking about it.

Dick,
As the organizer of last year's "production", I am glad you and Bill stated your concerns. The responses were mixed. Frankly, given the stunned faces in the front row, I was shocked when several FSGW stalwarts asked to be included in the 2007 plans. Some loved it.

For a variety of reasons the production grew like Topsy and had minimal rehearsal time. The theme was borderline "folk". The stage was miniscule compared to Ramblewood.

Hopefully, your concerns will be addressed, the length and breadth of the extravanganza will be shortened and the theme kept closer to folk.

The doowop/folk parodies I heard last year were brilliant. But if FSGW would prefer it be dropped, I don't think anyone will be devastated. Certainly it could be saved for a impromptu session after hours.

And it won't dominate the Getaway. Actually I have spent the last week getting in contact with UKers, Aussie's and locals putting together stuff for my workshop. I have been contacted by others doing workshops who are looking for lyrics, CDs, names, etc. This Getaway will be another where you would need to be in three places at one time to get all the best of it.

The Hendersons will all be there
Late of Pablo-Fanques Fair, what a scene
Over men and horses hoops and garters
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world!

The celebrated Mr. K.

The Hendersons will dance and sing

Messrs. K and H. assure the public

And of course Henry The Horse dances the waltz!

The band begins at ten to six

Well, I finally got off my duff and got my airline tickets today. I realized I had enough frequent-flyer miles for a free flight, so it's just costing me a $5 fee - but I won't arrive at National Airport until 11:30 PM Friday. I got a good car rental price from Hertz, so I don't need to scrounge a ride. Leave a light on for me, willya?

I was wondering about the cost of camp this year. I see it's $181 for non-members for three nights, but I was wondering what the member price is and whether it's worthwhile to renew my membership. I'm sure the member price is listed somewhere, but I can't find it.

Membership in FSGW is $31 a year, so I''m hesitating to join since I can't make it to other FSGW activities. But tell me the member price for the Getaway, so I'll know.

See y'all soon.

I have the same questions Joe does about FSGW membership fee, etc.

Still deciding whether I can/should go this year. Family matters are calling me to be in San Diego as much as possible in the next few months, economic necessity is calling me to be in Seattle, and asset management stuff is telling me to stay home in Portland.   So I'm inclined to put off Getaway for yet another year, but I just don't know yet.

If I do go, I'm still wondering which airport to try to fly into and out of and whether to arrive just before the gathering starts and leave immediately afterwards or extend the trip by a day or two and try to do more while there than just go to the Gathering.   I can use any advice anyone has.

If I can book a RT flight using my FF miles, I'll do that, since there's no penalty for cancelling or changing such a booking.   The real Q (aside from flight availability) is how soon I have to sign up and pay for the Getaway and how much of that I'd forfeit if I had to cancel.

Unless some one has already pm'd Sins, Jacqui or Tinker to confirm or say "Thanks, but we have some one else who has volunteered this year," would the 'responsible party' let one of us know if you want us to facilitate the auction this year?

And if you do, it would be good to talk to some one involved with set-up in advance. That room is small to accomodate all the tables for the auction, Dick & Susan's booth, the craft booths, artist's CD table, beading, info and registration and as a central place to meet, congregate and sing. It may be the only feasible space for all of that to happen, which means some planning and foresight regarding lay-out is called for. I'm betting some able FSGW minds are already on this one, but thought I would mention it, 'just in case....'

Bill D's posting of Sept 7 up yonder has a link to a pdf of the registration form, and you can also go to the FSGW Getaway page and get more information there and download the pdf registration form. You can also go that page and simply register on line.

Ms. Bear, the Getaway is a friendly crowd and when you find yourself overwhelmed, you can simply slip away to a quiet corner and decompress.
I am very concerned about your Secret Santa statement that you are trying to pare down and simplify your life. That will simply not do if you plan to spend any time with the Maine contingent.

Clairebear. have no fear!! These are WONDERFUL folks, all of 'em!! My first Getaway (2005) I felt a bit the way you describe....didn't quite know what to expect and at times, wondered what the heck was I thinking, traveling all the way across the country to spend the weekend with a bunch of folks I didn't know in a place unfamiliar. Took me all of about 5 minutes to fall in love with everyone! I will never forget what a thrill it was to meet in person, all of these fine folks, who'd previously been names on my computer screen. And many of them, every bit as wonderful, are not mudcatters, but FSGW's, the founders of this fabulous music weekend. They, too, became fast friends! As my once upon a time Kindergartener said on his first day of school, I have a few friends that I know and a WHOLE bunch of friends I don't know yet!

It is with such fondness that I recall memories of my Getaways....and gratitude for the friendships that were formed there and are so deeply treasured now.

It's wise of you Claire, to speak of your shyness. If you write "shy" on your name tag, you won't be shy by the end of the weekend!

Lonesome, it really looks like I can't make it this year (death in the family, plus a humongous milestone happening in my own life this November, complete with its own obstacle course), but I want to say that your post is just the sort of thing that could, if anything could, make it possible for me (and maybe others) to attend.   In addition to all the other hurdles (e.g., finding a reasonably priced and scheduled flight to the general area), the concept of landing in a strange place cross country (or world) and then figuring out how to get from there to the campsite (at what cost??), etc., etc., can be a bit discombobulating.   Anything that smacks of camaraderie, cooperation, carpooling, etc., is a huge plus.

Genie

PS,
Now that I know when the 2008 gathering is, I have my calendar marked well in advance. (Nobody gets to die and nothing catastrophic gets to happen between now and then.)   But I'll be "over the hill" by then, so who cares? ; )

PPS:

Bruce, if you're bringing (homemade?) crystallized ginger, you're really making me cry that I probably can't make it this year.

Clairebear, I'm glad you're going. I think you'll find yourself overcoming your shyness very easily in this atmosphere.

The silent auction is an FSGW fundraiser for the Getaway Scholarship Fund. It allows people to come to this wonderful gathering who otherwise might not be able to swing it. I have benefited from it in the past, and so have several others of us here in Mudville.

Genie,

"Bruce, if you're bringing (homemade?) crystallized ginger, you're really making me cry that I probably can't make it this year."

Don't cry. It is not homemade ( did that once, 5 lbs for 50 hours work...)
I get 10 - 20 Kilos at the co-op and bring it. Available for donations to the Scholarship Fund.

I will try to bring a few extra slot-headed classical guitars for the auction, as well.

DC area residents, Charlie Baum advises me to ask this on the forum:

I am a West Coaster and know nothing about the DC area, but I have maps and can follow them...

So, I am flying into Dulles on Thursday (arriving at 7:30pm) and renting a car at the airport for a leisurely, sightseeing-filled drive to the Getaway on Friday. Could someone tell me in what direction I might drive from the airport, and how far, to reach a not-too-expensive, not-too-major-chain hotel, if there is such a thing? And the hotel's name, assuming it exists, would be nice so I can make a reservation. It would be even better if said hotel put me someplace that would further my road trip on Friday. I am fond of back roads, small towns, and exploring rural settings.

Or should I give up and stay at the airport Best Western, or whatever the low-end airport hotel is at Dulles?

Thanks,
Claire

ClaireBear, I'm sure that you will get better and more specific answers to your question, but as a reformed DC-area resident (who now lives in a civilized part of the country) let me put my 2 cents in. Dulles is west of DC and the Getaway area is northeast-ish. Going close to the District on a weekday is a BAD IDEA, especially if you are unfamiliar with it.   If you plan on touristing in the city, I'd recommend finding a place to overnight somewhere north near a Metro stop, and don't even think of driving in.

Claire,
I recommend getting far away from the airport to avoid rush hour I 495 on Friday morning.

Suggestion: Do a mapquest from Dulles (IAD) to West River MD. Along the route will be College Park MD, where there are several motels just off I495. Mudcatters have stayed their successfully, you might PM KT above for the name of the specific motel where they stayed.
and/or
Do an www.orbitz.com search for motels in College Park and note their proximity to I495. This will have you on your route to the Getaway.

you can PM me with questions.

Thank you, Art, but in truth I would vastly prefer to avoid the city altogether and, instead, go prowling through small towns in Maryland or Virginia and exploring the shore of the Potomac.

Not that I have anything against Washington DC, but that would be its own trip and would require a week at least. No point in wasting a day trying to see it!

Claire--
Your total drive is pretty short--it's about 20-some miles from Dulles into the DC Beltway, it's about 20-some miles around the beltway, and it's about 20-some miles from the Beltway to West River. If there were no traffic problems, the whole journey would be less than an hour and a half. Yeah, right! Traffic along most of the route is subject to potential rush hour delays between 3:30 am and 11:30 pm. Therefore, any zigzagging to avoid the Beltway increases your mileage, but not necessarily your time.

The distances are so short, however, that you might just stare at a map and figure out where you'd most like to do your shunpiking. Then pick a nice hotel or B&B in a scenic place along your route. In general, the farther out in the country you get, the lower the lodging prices, though there probably aren't any true bargains in the region. The distances involved are so small that progress to the East isn't really required.

Possible interesting places to visit in the area that aren't DC: Great Falls of the Potomac (MD or VA), Harpers Ferry WV, Shepherdstown WV, Antietam MD, Frederick MD, Annapolis, MD, Waterford VA, Fredericksburg, VA, Shenandoah National Park VA, the Eastern Shore...

Or just maybe, someone will volunteer about a pre-Getaway party at their home on Thursday, with crash space included...

I made a hotel reservation in Leesburg (though I could always cancel, if there's a party), since that would put me in a position to cross the Potomac (after rush hour) relatively far from the capital city and then find some backroads that amble down through small towns in Maryland, skirting both DC and Baltimore metro areas, to the coast and on to West River. Does that make sense, or should I head south and cross the Potomac somewhere south of DC instead?

Power structure default or indifference leads me to plan to get the Fri. night sing started once again. 8:30 Main hall. Everybody who wants to sing gets to sing if that means six hours to get around the room. Bring your cast iron butts (developed at Fox Hollow) and choruses. We guarantee that your chosen song won't be sung by anyone else before the person next yo you does it.

PS Motels for you furriners are a lot closer in Annapolis, Upper Marlboro or Bowie. Look at the map. Also BWI is a reasonable airport.

Yes, things I know quite well in my own livingroom, that I've done dozens and dozens of times can still disappear like smoke in a song circle which is filled with other people's music and keys in your ears. Or else you concentrate so hard on remembering that you can't make eye contact, etc, even if you've practiced this specifically. Having the stuff in your hands helps a lot. I'm glad of this advice also.

Dani, Janie, Linda G.,...this use of paper for variable memory issues 'can' be a thorny one, but I have adopted the "if I can't tell with my eyes closed" philosophy as *I* get older and have fewer opportunities to sing in public...*grin*
(Linda...you & I go to the same Open Sings, and YOU know that we do get those who can't even follow a tune or find the words even IF they are staring at the sheet...*sigh*...probably because this is only the 3rd time they have ever looked at the song.) That is sad...and tedious, and provides no enjoyment for the audience.

I have a large collection of songs that I have known..or almost known...for years; and with a bit of help in my lap, I can usually get thru them just fine.

The Getaway is an amazing place, with well-known musicians hob-nobbing with rank amateurs...and mostly getting along just fine. And most of those pros can remember when THEY were rank amateurs, and are pretty tolerant at this venue.

It's a good idea to not attempt a song you really are not sure of and haven't practiced at all...but otherwise, SING and enjoy!

See you soon!

Well, having recieved an PM from a member of the organizing committee who assumed that I'd be in attendance to do my usual mini-concert and perhaps other stuff (think blues jam here...), sadly, I will not be attending this year...

Okay, I'll admit that if Ebbie and KT had committed I prolly would have made more effort but the blues duo of wnich I am half is playing just about every weekend somewhere and this is the case with the Getaway weekend...

Yeah, I'll miss the heck outta the folks who know perfectly well who they are so no reason to go down the list... You know who you are...

But, hopefully, next year...

Sniff...

I do hate to miss seein' __________ and ____________ and______________ and ___________.... and...

Now if I ain't in the cold, cold ground I'll be there, prolly with my harp player... I'll just tell him we got booked to play up in Maryland, then surprise him with 3 days of insanity and lousy food...

MMario m'luv - any new babies come due in fall of next year, tell their parents the youngin's are just gonna have to stay heathen 'til after the Getaway -AND- I believe the dates for next year are already set, so you can tell 'em all to schedule their fornicating accordingly! (Did I really just say that?) uhmmmm, or at least, the christening/baptism.

Dang, Bobert. The FSGW finally found a place with heat for the sole purpose of keeping yer skinny little bluesman butt warm, and here you are, buggin' out two years in a row!. I'm plumb scared they'll move it a campground and change the date to January next year, just to spite you!

Seriously, I will really miss you guys and Sins, and Ebbie and KT, and all the UK folks, and so many others that I have had the joy and pleasure of meeting once upon at least one Getaway.

And I look forward to meeting Claire and any other lovers of the music that brings us all together.

These Tilley hats are special -- they come with an owner's manual, and a little packet of success stories, one of which was submitted by an animal keeper whose Tilley hat was stolen and swallowed by an elephant. He loved the hat so much he waited for it to re-appear, cleaned it up and continued wearing it. This happened three times!!

The Tilley company was so impressed they offered him a brand new one of they could have the one that had been through the elephant three times for their product museum; the keeper was unimpressed and vowed he would never part with his hat.

Unfortunately the tourists in Santa Cruz are less accomodating that way than elephants,

This is Jenn. I am being maligned, as usual. Doll cult? He should live so long! Anyway, as soon as he pointed out the conflict, the issue was decided. Even I, even though it will break my own poor also doll- besotted (let's not go there) sister's heart, would much rather be at Getaway than exchanging doll bon mots with other people who are mostly there to sell stuff anyway. So let's all be kind, here, ok, and Fortunato, I think it's safe to read this thread. As safe as anything on Mudcat to the sensitive, anyway--Jenn

I broached the suggestion that I take her to MD and have her baptised there.

Her mother offered me her oldest daughter (5.5 years old) if I would leave her in MD.

Her father promised me a painful death.

She spit up on me.

But that's okay - because middle sister and I had a good long snuggle - with two kittens! (sometimes 4 kittens)

Deb, I'm not quite sure what you meant by a "singing group" (workshop?), but both Gordon Bok and John Roberts are on the program. Gordon is co-leading the "Songwriters Showcase" and doing a mini-concert on Saturday, and leading a guitar-tuning session (the exact nature of which is still to be worked out) on Sunday, and John is co-leading the Ballads workshop and doing a mini-concert on Sunday. I expect they will both show up at other sessions as well.

Blame Bush for getting me a job? At least he got one thing right.
Next year. No matter what!
Have fun all and then tell us all about it.
SINS, planning to enjoy vicariously.

After two and a half weeks in Virginia it seemed like a good idea to get home, but now I am not so sure. I will be there next year though. Can't believe I'm missing John Roberts and Gordon Bok. I did have a great weekend playing music with David Scheim last weekend in VA or I would be entirely bereft.

Okay, it's Friday night, 11:42 pm....Are there any fool heads on the ground yet? Surely lots of singing, laughter, good food and camaraderie ~ Thinking of you all, and wishing you wonderful times and happy memories!

HMMMMM
Mrs. Duck - just how precious is Micca? Worth his weight in banjo players, maybe??????
Saturday night. They have been fed after a whole day of workshops. On their way to the evening concert.
Sigh

Ferrara asked," Has anyone heard whether ClaireBear is feeling better..."

I haven't gotten any response to a PM I sent her to see how she was doing. Either she made it down and hasn't had occasion to leave the fun to check on such things, or she is still sick. I hope it is the former. Maybe a 'catter who also knows her in the outside world could check on her, or perhaps someone who is in contact with the Getaway gang could ask.

Quick post:

Great fun was had, in spite of the missing people. ( Sorry BillD, they are not THAT gullible)

ClaireBear was there.

Micca was last seen heading off towards Maine.

Next Year's Getaway will be in OCTOBER.

I started campaigning in April to get the weekend off for this year- I will start in March this year, just to be safe.

Clairbear was there, and seemed to have recovered just fine! And, wow, what a voice!
