Nothin' on Youtube, either. Maybe another way to go at this is to tell us who did it, when, etc.

"Your Time Ain't Long" lyrics by Steve Forbert here:

----------------------------------------

There is an old blues song, "Baby Your Time Ain't Long." It is a track on the famous Pine Breeze recordings of old time folk from Tennessee, first issued in 1975 and re-issued on a 2-cd set, "The Pine Breeze Recordings." Available from www.countysales.com

It appears as the lyrics to "Take It Easy," Nat Terry, on Imperial 5150, a 10'' 78rpm. Jeff Todd Titon, "Thematic Pattern in Downhome Blues Lyrics," discusses this recording; Jour. American Folklore, vol. 90, no. 357, Jul-Sept 1977, pp. 316-330, giving partial lyrics.

"Choosing to reform her," Terry sings

Well you run all up and down the street,
Running other women's men,
You better take it easy, baby,
Take it easy while you can cause your time,
Baby you know your time ain't long.

I hope someone at Mudcat can supply the complete lyrics.

Well, someone who can hear could check the links I posted above. I'm no good at transcribing.

Nat Terry's recording was issued in 1951.

Can't find lyrics to the song sung by the Hill Billies (Buckle and crew). Probably the one on the set offered by countysales.com

I realize of course that this thread is more or less dead, but in case anyone should look at this or come across it on Google, here are the lyrics as sung by the Dust Busters, a new(ish) string band very much like the New Lost City Ramblers.

1. You better quit your rowdy ways
You better quit your rowdy ways
They'll get you awfully fast (?) (this is not quite decipherable)
If they don't, you'll wish they had,
You better quit your rowdy ways
Chorus:
   Baby your time ain't long
   Baby your time ain't long
   Your time ain't long,
   because you've done me wrong,
   Baby your time ain't long
2. I wish I was a lizard in the spring (x2)
If I was a lizard in the spring,
   I'd hear my baby sing
Wish I was a lizard in the spring
Chorus
3. Never liked no railroad boss (x2)
Railroad boss went and hid behind my hoss
   Never liked no railroad boss
Chorus
4. I got a good woman just the same (x2)
Woman just the same and Liza is her name
Got a good woman just the same
Chorus

This is the best I could transcribe my recording of the Dust Busters singing this. If anyone has another recording or has input that might clear up the lines that I had trouble deciphering (the lines with (?) at the end), you are welcome to contribute.
