Diane - Who DO you like?

With a fear of being chastised or called names I have never heard before - Who exactly do you like Diane (Easby)?
This IS a serious question, as you seem someone not slow in coming forward!

Why the challenging tone of this question? If you scan through Diane's past posts you will find plenty of examples where she refers to singers or players she likes. Off the top of my head I remember her mentioning Mawkin and Too Many Strings for a start.

Such a personal question would be better served as a PM. The fact that it is made publicly only adds to the challenging tone. If you were hoping to goad Diane into an argument of some sort, you should get to know her better first.

Thank you George.

As a matter of fact, I was in the middle of writing a PM to Tim Radford (who really should know better).

I decline to engage in public with someone who has now apparently opted onto the side of no-nothing nitwit trolls such as madlizziecornish(Mrs Route) and boko/bonkers/bonzo(Stephen Giles) whose 'contribution' to music is to wreck musicians' careers and/or and steal their work by recording it without permission and have nowhere else left to them but this indulgent site to scribble their rubbish.

What I LIKE isn't the point. What I DO is impart information and correct misinformation.

My goodness! What a majestic response, worthy of Penelope Rutledge at her best. Positively breathtaking! Madame, that should put Tim Radford soundly in his place, I think. He will no doubt slink off now to lick his wounds in private.

I like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Gordon Lightfoot, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Tanita Tikaram, Jackson Browne, Al Stewart, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and, oh....about a few hundred more fine singers and performers...too numerous to list here.

And I like my dog.

Thank you.

how does one impart correct misinformation?

So you like Tanita Tikaram and lick your dog, LH?
It's OK, I was just testing your sobriety.

I'm not totally sure who Penelope Rutledge is and Mr Google doesn't help much.
Can you change it to Dorothy Parker?
I like Tanita Tikaram too.
And her brother who appeared completely starkers in This Life.
And all fine exponents of mostly English traditional music.
And my cat, my guitar and my violin.

Could it be the Penelope Rutledge from a long expired thread on Mudcat?

I have written a PM to Diane. Without repeating here what I said in total, I will only add that my question WAS GENUINE and NOT meant to be challenging.
I leave it up to you as to whether you believe me or not.
I for one will leave it at that, if you wish to continue the discussion with me - then you too can PM me, as I am only too willing to give my views on Traditional music - which I perform and listen too all the time.

One could almost think that she went on the same course as Thatcher!

Hmm. Well, I'm not quite sure who Dorothy Parker is either.

Penelope Rutledge is a very formidable woman, and one does not cross her lightly. It would be like crossing the Queen.

As for Tanita, I loved those albums she did in the late 80's, early 90's, but I don't know what she's been up to since then. I found her way of writing songs (and singing them) to be very unique.

I think thats really unfair.
Mrs Thatcher caused untold misery for many people and in my opinion made England a really depressing place.
I enjoy Diane Easbys posts,I agree with some and not with others.
I also think that the title of this post is a personal attack, and I think the thread should be closed.

I agree, personal attacks are most upsetting.

whereas impersonal attacks....made purely for the common good of the greatest number.

I think we can all agree that the dirty sods who find themselves the subject of an impersonal attack: made to correct the evils of this terrible age and to punish the malefactor....they have only themselves to blame. In fact in a way they should feel honoured, and sort of humbled that we people in the right - we took the time to kick them in the goolies.

The tone of the original post does seem a little confrontational, given that Diane has made no secret of her eclectic tastes in her many posts here. As someone who likes a lot of what she likes, I would say she also has extremely good taste! She also comes across as someone who is both knowledgable and hugely enthusiastic about good music - and one who is unwilling to suffer fools gladly.
So, as far as I'm concerned, she's a good egg.

LH --

Dorothy Parker was a marvelous 20th century US writer known for her wit -- often dark, often acerbic, always outspoken -- and superb command of the language. Her Wikipedia bio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_Parker) is a good start. Here are some notable quotes of hers: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_Parker). And a couple more:

You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think.

                                – Dorothy Parker (attrib)

Résumé

Razors pain you,
Rivers are damp,
Acids stain you,
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful,
Nooses give,
Gas smells awful.
You might as well live.

                                – Dorothy Parker, Enough Rope (1926)

ps -- sorry, but my blicky-maker seems to be, at least momentarily, out of order.

LOL!!!! Marvelous! I salute Dorothy Parker. You have chosen well, Diane.

I think the best way to deal with personal attacks, generally speaking, is not to make the error of taking them personally...or taking them seriously either. (but that's admittedly not always easy...)

Hello Misters Dux and Hawk

I've been out for hours in the sunshine and become a red-tinged golden.
But the heat has detuned my violin for ever.
Oh, did somebody say something?

Oh well, never mind.
I'll drag my Dorothy Parker rope across to fRoots because there's someone there I want to (musically) string up.

Well, I'll tell you, I sure as hell don't like threads like this. I think I'll close it before it ends in chaos, which is the inevitable outcome of threads like this.

The "who do you like?" question may be appropriate within the context of an ongoing discussion. To put it in a thread of its own, seems like an attempt to provoke a fight. In general, we don't allow threads directed at individuals, particularly is they start with a critical tone.
