An improvement over nothing, but I'm waiting to see whether this sort of time and mixture can actually fulfiil the BBC remit so aptly quoted by FolkieDave in another thread. Below is part of a message about it from Sarah.Drummond@bbc.co.uk. Sandie will look at music and listings, and we'll have the sequence available on listen-again (though the general listen-again facility has been experiencing some problems recently, so fingers crossed it will be fixed for Monday" |

There will be little point in trying to sort out the musical tastes of the presenter - but in the meantime bang in events for her to mention like there is no tomorrow. Anything at all happening remotely in the area. I'd include Whitby, Leeds and Hull for example. If she gets a lot of notices saying Duncan McFarlane is playing in the area - she will find it easier to play his records. Say "We get a lot of people coming to our event from York so would you give it a mention" sort of thing. Mick Peat used to publicise Holmfirth on that basis. Make sure you hit the "Listen Again" button - even if you don't - these hits are counted....(The problem is fixed now I think) Email the programme - always in a positive vein. "Lovely to hear Johnny Cash - have you heard Bellowhead's version of the same tune?" sort of thing". Remember part of my argument is that there is a lot of folk music around and that does not get reflected on the BBC. Make sure they know there is. Keep this thread bumped up till everyone gets back from Sidmouth!! Dave |

At least the lincolnshire folk program is on a Wednesday, so doesn't conflict. Incidentally I listen to the programs on my laptop as you can get any BBC program through the Internet in any county. |

16 Aug 07 - 01:57 PM (#2127223) Subject: RE: BBC Radio York-30 min folk/acoustic From: peregrina Hi Dave, I didn't catch the whole thing but I heard one track from a Tommy Makem CD (great of course, but the presenter mispronounced his name) and one track from Oysterband with a notice that they would play in Leeds in September. And lots of chatter. The folk acoustic-slot in Sandie's evening show is just part of the whole, and is not listed or advertised as a folk show, can't be heard again, and doesn't cover local performers or events. In short, no replacement for the Old North Yorkshire Folk.... BUT at least Sarah Drummond has been replying to all e-mails and has even spoken on the phone with others who made their views known. ...and so I am hoping that more clamour for a real folk show with an appropriate presenter might eventually bring results. |

FolkieDave - the Listen Again problem isn't fixed yet, but there's always a link on Genevieve's home page (click on her picture at the top of the page) that gets round it and goes straight to her show. |
