Hi, John - since this is a pop song, I suppose that the Folk Police would prefer if I would just post a link to Lyrics World, but this song is one of my favorites. Folk Police, I live in Greenwich, Connecticut.... (grin)

Sentimental Journey
Recorded by Doris Day
Words and music by Bud Green, Les Brown and Ben Homer

Les Brown, with Doris as his "girl singer", charted at #1 in 1945
Competing versions charted by Hal McIntyre (#3) and The Merry Macs (#4)
In 1951 Les Brown re-did it with The Ames Brothers and hit only # 23.

[lengthy instrumental intro]

Gonna take a sentimental journey
Gonna set my heart at ease
Gonna make a sentimental journey
To renew old memories

Got my bag, got my reservation
Spent each dime I could afford
Like a child in wild anticipation
Long to hear that "All aboard"

Seven, that's the time we leave, at seven
I'll be waitin' up for heaven
Countin' every mile of railroad track
That takes me back
Never thought my heart could be so yearny
Why did I decide to roam?
Gotta take that sentimental journey
Sentimental journey home

Sentimental journey!
Darn! Gene beat me!

And if you'd like to hear a Midi of the song, there are 25 separate versions of it here to choose from:

I defy anyone to type this out free hand and get it right. Perhaps Joe could perform his wizardry on this. Thanks Joe.

Regards
John

If such a force as the Folk Police should enter the forum and lay claim to Sentimental Journey being UNFOLKY, just play the song for them and watch em melt. I spent a lot of time through the years a'buskin away on many a street corner and I can't ever remember anyone of any age, shape bent or color not thoroughly enjoying this one. A song for all the folk and folkettes in the world!
