18 Apr 99 - 06:22 PM (#71821) Subject: Green Green Grass of Home Parody From: Laura Looking for the lyrics or a source of a parody of "The Green Green Grass of Home". Not sure who did it, but it was probably done 30 years ago. Know part of the lyrics refer to stepping off the train to see the old outhouse and the old oak seat I used to sit on. Any help would be appreciated. Laura |

Down the road I look and there runs Mary, Hair of gold and lips like cherries. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home. CHORUS: Yes, they'll all come to see me, Arms a-reachin', smilin' sweetly. It's so good to touch the green, green grass of home. The old house is still standing, But the paint is cracked and worn, And there's that old oak tree that I used to climb on. CHORUS Then I awake and look around me, At the gray walls all around me, And I realize that I was only dreamin', 'Cause there's a guard and a sad old padre. Arm in arm we'll walk at daybreak. Again I'll touch the green, green grass of home. FINAL CHORUS: Yes, they'll all come to see me, In the shade of that old oak tree, As they lay me 'neath the green, green grass of home. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home CHORUS: Oh yes, they'll all come to greet me, Arms outstretched and smiling sweetly. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home. My oul' tent is still standin' And me sleepin' bag is dry, And there's the oul' latrine I used to wee in. Down the road I walk that's called Garvaghy, A trip that always makes me happy. And we play "The Ducks of Magheralin" Even though the tune's a din And then we play "The Green Slopes of the Boyne." CHORUS But then I wake and look around me. A thousand cops surround me, And I realise that I was only dreamin'; For the hoors in thon oul' Walks Commission, On our parades are forever pishin', So we're camped out on the green, green grass of home. From http://www.farmboymusic.com/old/lyric_thegreengreengrassofhome.html THE GREEN, GREEN GRASS OF HOME Lyrics copyright 1994 by Clyde Bauman My old back yard looks the same as I step out in the rain, And there to greet me is my hound dog and the silo. Down the path I walk to the old two-holer. I sure am glad it ain't no colder As I walk across the green, green grass of home. My outhouse is still standing with the half-moon on the door, And there's that great big painted plank I love to sit on. When I sit in there, there's never many - Just me and God, and J. C. Penney - And around me grows the green, green grass of home. Then I stand up and look around me At all the corncobs that surround me And I realize: I'm glad it's not December. When it's cold out, I try not to shiver, 'Cause when I do, I get a sliver! And I bleed all over the green, green grass of home. Every now and then, I just don't make it - Sometimes my kidneys just can't take it - And that's why we have such green, green grass at home. From http://nfldsongs.tripod.com/06/grass.htm: GREEN, GREEN GRASS OF HOME (Joan Morrissey Rendition) The old hometown looks the same As I fall down from the train And there to meet me is Joe Smallwood and John Crosbie. Down the lane I look, and there runs Neary, Lookin' oh so sad and weary. It's good to smoke the green, green grass of home. CHORUS: Yes, they've all come to meet me, Arms a-reachin' smiling sweetly, It's so good to smoke the green, green grass of home. The old house is still standing, But our treasury has run dry; And there's that old seat that Valour used to sit on. Down the lane I look, and there runs Rossy, Chasin' after our old cow Bossy. We're gonna have some green, green grass at home. CHORUS |

07 Sep 04 - 10:18 PM (#1266461) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Green Green Grass of Home Parody From: Jim Dixon Re: Homer & Jethro's version of GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME. I've consulted a couple of online discographies, and assuming they're complete, the only time H&J recorded GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME was when they teamed up with Chet Atkins and performed as The Nashville String Band. It's on NSB's album "Identified!" RCA Victor LSP-4472 (1971). Trouble is, all 10 cuts on that album are instrumentals. In fact, I think NSB only did instrumentals. You can see the album cover and the track list here. So it looks like H&J didn't record a parody – unless, of course, they used a title so different from GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME that I can't recognize it. And there's the roar of the same old fans to greet me, Oh it's Alice, Doris, Lily and Mary, Skins a little wrinkly and chins a little hairy They've all been put out to the green, green grass of home. 2. When they were maidens young and fair, They used to throw their underwear, Upon the stage where I would strut my strut so boldly But now it's only ladies of a certain age, Who still try to throw their knickers on the stage And they lie there on the green, green grass of home. Chorus:- And those knickers hot and sweaty, They fell down from heaven just like confetti, And landed on green green grass of home. 3. I used to use those knickers as a towel To wipe the sweat from off my brow, And throw them back to the sound of all that screaming, But nowadays I'm not so keen, because, After all, you don't know where they've been! It's so sad to think of that green, green grass of home. 4.Now you wouldn't hear me complain When those knickers fell like rain, Though one or two had probably been weed in! But nowadays before they stay throwing , They've probably wet themselves without even knowing, , It's so hard on the green, green grass of home. Chorus:- And those knickers hot and sweaty, They fell down from heaven just like confetti, And landed on green green grass of home. 5.Well ,these days I move a little slower, My voice a little lower, But as we all know things drop as we get older, Some of those knickers won't reach me, this I know, They'll only get as far as the second row, And land there on the green, green grass of home. 6. Well just like these ladies here These are my twilight years, Oh, well, I suppose I'd better just enjoy the time remaining And no use pretending , though it's sad, Look out, here comes an incontinence pad!! It's a health and safety issue on the green, green grass of home. Chorus:- And those knickers hot and sweaty, They fell down from heaven just like confetti, And landed on green green grass of home. |
