Disclaimer: I used the asterisk in the title to try to avoid the stupid spammers who hit certain threads with suggestive titles. There is a lot to be suggested by this list, but it would be nice to carry on a discussion without GUEST:qwertyuiop dropping in salacious urls.

I don't get the IFC, but I read about the list when it was posted to another forum. Lots of sex scenes, straight and gay on this list. But what about the films as a whole? If the film isn't a good one I find the sex isn't nearly so interesting. I transcribed the list because they broke it down into a bunch of different web pages to see all of them. I haven't seen more than a handful of the films, and some of them I agree with. And I added a few to my Netflix list. :)

Blimey - I've been watching entirely the wrong sort of film... I've only seen 5 of those listed above!

Of that five, the funniest s&x scene has to be 'Young Frankenstein'... "Oh, sweet mystery of life, I think I've found you!!" You can't imagine the hilarity caused by me quoting that line to someone else who had seen the film... made for some fantastic nights I can tell you! (actually I can't, this is a family site...)

Otherwise, the remaining 4 were fairly mediocre - I don't even remember the scene in 'The Piano'... and as for 'Don't look now', despite it being one of my favourite films, I can't get over how thin and weedy Donald Sutherland looks without his clothes on. I think it's the big hair that makes it disproportionate.

Liz, I thought so also about Young Frankenstein!

Of those on the list, when I first saw it I thought Body Heat was certainly the steamiest, but I thought Coming Home by far the most sensual.

just a slight thread drift, but my favourite love story of all time is Heifits's The Lady with the Little Dog (1960) from Russia. and it has NO sex scenes.

The KFC list would have to include the sex scene in Nick Park's Chicken Run. Very tasteful, all implied....

Talking of implied sex scenes, that must be what they are reffering to in High Fidelity, as I do not remember any overt steaminess.

Well I've only seen seven on the list and the only sex scene I really remember is in The Piano which I thought was very erotic, but that was because of Harvey Keitel!

I am surprised not to see Like Water for Chocolate for its sensuousness, if nothing else....there was sex in it, right?**bg**

Agree on Ghost, too!

Also, why didn't they include The Crying Game?

Ha! I also have seen only 2 of them. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the thread title was "Body Heat", and it is there of course...it took # 17. It remains one of my favorite films to this day.

I've seen about 1/3 of the films on the list and regard them all as very good movies. I don't even remember the s*x scenes in some of them. I can think of a number of films with pretty steamy s*x scenes which aren't on the list, but they really aren't very good movies. "9&1/2 Weeks", "Angel Heart", "Wild Orchid", and the remake of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" come to mind. Conspicuously absent is "Monster's Ball".

There is a subtle sleeper of a film called Firelight that has some of the most sensual sex I've seen in a film in a long time. You can't get the wide screen version these days or you'd see a little more of Stephen Dillane and Sophie Marceau.

Sophie made another one, Mes nuits sont plus belles que vos jours (My Nights Are More Beautiful Than Your Days) that was filled with nudity and sex, but was so avant garde that it wasn't enough to keep me watching it, I had to fast forward to see where it was going. And when it got there, I didn't go back to watch it at normal speed.

The only one I thought of ahead of time - both the only one I thought of, and the one I thought of ahead of time - was Betty Blue (37.2 le Matin in v.o.) - which was amazing.
So was the peeling of the orange in that movie that wasn't Kentucky Fried Movie but was very like it. But since that wasn't actually sex - you just thought it was for the longest time - I guess technically it doesn't count.

The one movie that comes (no pun intended) into my head (also no pun intended) was one that Bee-zer mentioned, "The Postman Always Knocks Twice"... ( I don't think it was "...Rings Twice" but it might have been...)...

Anyway, the scene is with Jack Nicolson and Jessica Lange and it is pure unalterated "sex"... No "love making" here... Just sex... But a darned good movie, as well...

alison is correct. For pure mammalian copulation, "The Name of the Rose" has one of the best s*x scenes ever filmed, either inside or outside of a porno flick.

(pornos are too graphic anyway)

Porn is a completely different subject, in which it is more likely that the sex drives the story than the story drives the sex. Did anyone ever see Last Tango in Paris? Would it still get an X rating today?

About five years ago there was a little-noted movie called Enemy at the Gate which depicted a drawn-out duel between a German Sniper and a Russian Sniper in Stalingrad during WW2. I really enjoyed the stark setting of the film, and there was a terrific sex scene where the Russian sniper and his lady love are sleeping in a vast ruined building along with several hundred of their comrades. Their cuddling escalates into lovemaking as, trying not to wake their fellow soldiers, they grope and struggle out of enough of their uniforms to achieve the necessary degree of nudity to complete the act. Very urgent and real, and not glamorous...but very, very hot.

Yes, that was quite a realistic scene. She was a sniper too, besides being his lady love. The Russians had a large number of women serving as combat soldiers in the "Great Patriotic War" as they called it. It was a total national effort, and the female soldiers, sailors, and pilots fought valorously...as some did also in Spain for the Republican forces.

Natasha Kinski and Rudolph Nureyev in "Exposed" if you could get through the inane plot, dreadful acting, and mincing Rudy. The nude sex was great until he started playing her like a fiddle. I saw it in a theatre and the entire audience was laughing out loud.

A friend and I were seated in a darkened theater in Seattle back in the 1970s when the first Rocky was released. The old-time theater played a short subject first, a little film called "The Prince." A well-to-do woman wakes up alone in bed, strolls through her shower and into tennis whites, heads across the estate to the tennis court. She turns on a tape, turns on the tennis ball launching machine and we listen to the deep male voice calmly then more passionately instruct her on the proper technique. A flurry of balls at the end of the session, then as she sits against the fence panting the machine lets one lone little ball go, drop-like, out of the launcher.

I presume that some poor soul in the theater didn't understand the movie. Some other soul, sotto voce, responded "It means sex" into the looming silence of the theater, whereupon the entire audience, who heard this answer to a man, roared with laughter.

Best short subject I ever saw, for that one answer alone. :)

Those names redirect my thoughts to sensuality on television. Whole new thread in some ways, but often films make it to TV (with drastic edits to remove the sex but leave any violence intact--so much for the value system in our commercial American culture!) I can't think of any stunning sex scenes in television, though I know it has been a hot-button issue at times. I can only name one: Spock and Uhura. :)

Magnum P.I. had a brief scene with Selleck's buns in the shower in view many years ago, that was quite an event. Dallas? I simply don't watch today's television season lineup, not a single dramatic program, so I don't know if any of them are getting away with good sex or not. For good sex on TV, must one turn to that strange step-child, cable programming? HBO and Showtime?

I've seen 11 - so maybe perv status still eludes me.......I thought the sex scenes in Coming Home and in The Piano were wonderful. I still remember having seen Coming Home and telling someone at work about it and what a BRILLIANT intimate scene it had with a paraplegic making love -- the person I was telling looked at me in utter horror........but it was WONDERFULLY done.....

I received a couple from Netflix last week. With some of these films, like Shortbus, a little goes a long way! There's a surprisingly coherent story behind all of the sex.
