BS: London Couch

From: Shezinaussie

I am just finishing a 3 mth UK stint; attended 7 of festivals and sang lots :) , finishing with 4 days in London from Wed 5th, flying back to Aussie 10am Sunday 9th - is there a folk friendly couch for 4 days in London - find hostels pretty dire, and would rather be with folk/s!! I wish to explore/experience London so will be away during the day (sunshine please) - can always offer same in Aussie if you come to visit.

I might be able to help too, depends if I have a Severn staying with me or not! We can certainly give you a good Irish session on the Thursday night if you'd like.

Is this a new Mudcatter, or someone who has been a guest for a while who has now joined? Only one post so far, so no history here to go by. I'm all for generosity among performers, but stay safe, those of you with couches to share!

Ah... you don't know which couch I have in mind... the one that the springs have gone or the one the cat was sick on.

So glad to see replies to this, I was wondering myself but am not 'in town' so probably not convenient.

Can only see 2 posts from shez & shezaussie, heard yesterday from another Catter that shez is a lively young lady, but don't know if that's from personal knowledge or virtual.

thank you from the other 'catter' who described me as a 'lively young lady' - very generous really as am a bit of an old chook really!!! yes, I am 'new' to mudcat, but have been a folkie for over 30yrs; usually in aussie, but have spent the last two summers (technically speaking this year) in the UK - there are a couple of 'catter's' who do know me - Theresa, are you there - who will vouch that you will be 'safe' with me - away to Shrewsbury Festival today, so will not be back on line till Monday - thank you for your responses!!

Shez, I've just read your Blog on Folk Rag & can see that you're definitely Lively & a True-blue Folkie to boot!! Lady Elizabeth from Brighton pointed out your thread to me yesterday & sent me a link to the Blog when I enquired of you.

As I said earlier, we're not 'in town' but in Leatherhead which is 45 minutes by train to Waterloo (cheap day return around a tenner I think) so we may not be convenient enough for your exploration of London. However, our spare room is at your disposal should all else fail, PM me if needed & I'll reply with phone numbers etc.

Am certain that others will be able to help nearer town though and maybe a Gather could be set up somewhere so we can all meet up

Hope you have a Fab time at Shrewsbury, alas we're not going this year but are looking forward to Wareham the weekend after.

Hi Shezinaussie. I have stayed with Micca and can confirm that he is a very hospitable host. You're in a good part of the world for Mudcatters there - I hope that you get to meet a few. It's a shame you're not there for the Tuesday night and Sharps - that really is a place to get to!

Shez came and stayed until Sunday and has now departed in the direction of Oz and home, she left at 5 am on Sunday morning and was a friendly and good house guest, and is welcome to my spare room at need again.

Gosh, 2007 was such a long time ago - but, I will be back - about to plan a 4 mth trip in England in 2020 - I have got even older of course, and now 'retired' so as long as I can do it on a shoe-string, will have a fabulous time! Long way off yet, but mid 2019 the planning will commence - will be looking to buy a cheap van to sleep in - so driveways to park in as well; steward at lots of festivals; sing at lots of festivals, and generally 'bring it on'!

One Bedroom semis are not very good from the hospitality viewpoint ,but I do have parking space and can help with fodder and such - Get to quite a few clubs so can help with transport as well " !1

Thanks for your response - must figure out how to set this up so I can get notified of responses! My friends are laughing at me starting to plan now...albiet most in my head; but forming the desire creates the reality! yes, one bedroom semi's can be a challenge, but hey, parking space is perfect, and fodder share is wonderful - just spent yesterday with a woman from London who is in Aussie 'house-sitting' and she has also kindly offered her driveway.
the main thing i need to do is getting my singing and playing back up to scratch - when i cam back from my first trip to the UK I could lead 90 songs - now, its about 9!!
so...back to the guitar

From: Shezinaussie

Move on to mid summer, 2022 - my email is still shezuk2020 - ha ha, we all know THAT didn’t happen!! But I did get here, finally, May 23rd, 2022 - started at Chippenham festival that Friday on 27th and off on a great trip - 14 festivals in 16 weeks was the first plan - then our friend, COVID , paid me a visit! I went on a great narrow boat trip and brought it back - no hope of social distancing on a NB! Anyway, It has lingered on - 5 weeks post and still struggling with fatigue and can’t sing, but carrying on, albeit at a slower rate than usual!!
Currently at Sidmouth; then up to Whitby/Saltburn/Shrewsbury and finally at Bromyard mid Sept!!
Which brings me back to my usual request - I’d love to spend a week in London, brushing up on my tourist genes - so looking for a sofa /bed - something warm & safe, pref near an underground so I can slowly ‘do’ London!!
I can offer a return visit to Aussie these days, riding shotgun in my camper - I always have a spare tent, and if I’m in Oz always welcome a companion - currently planning to come back to UK next yr, but I’m back home in your winter!!!

Update August 1st - tried to alter the original post - couldn’t seem to - I’ve been offered a bed by a lovely folk person so all sorted - thank you to the folk network!
