It was a difficult decision. The heavy rainfall from the last couple weeks have submerged a lot of the area where the festival was held. Other locations were also going to be too muddy or damaged to use as a fall back location. All the performers were reached in time so no one had to make the trip for nothing. But if any mudcatters in the area were thinking of coming out, I thought you should know there was not going to be a festival. Here's hoping next year's should go off without a hitch. |

The FVFV is not only one of the great fests in the US in terms of talent, but there is nothing like sitting out on that little island on a warm summer day and soaking it all in. I just guess the "soaking" would be literal this year!! I hope the local performers are able to put on some concerts in place of the fest. Chris in Portland |

My condolences go out to Terri Byerly and Juel Ulven and ALL you people who made this the best summertime folk festival in Illinois! The setting, ISLAND PARK--on a beautiful island in the middle of the Fox River in Geneva, Illinois was and is truly an idyllic oasis! I'm sure the waters will recede and the next fest will be the best one ever. By the way, Phil, my surgery went real well with no pain to speak of. I would've been at the festival after all! Other than a chunk of my right ear being deleted---sort of a lobe-otomy---I'm as good as new!! I knew, when the phone rang while I was ironing, that I shouldn't've answered it.--- (I never was real good at multitasking. ;-) Art and Carol Thieme |

I think you know that I had a hip replacement and Fox Valley was going to be the first major performance with my new bionic parts. The Ironic thing is Juel and I had set up a good workshop schedule, without double booking anyone in record time. Now, if everyone who was committed to this year, can make it next year, we won't have to change anything. There'll be some bbq's and jam sessions happening, but it won't be the same. --Phil |

31 Aug 07 - 05:44 AM (#2137509) Subject: RE: fox valley folk festival cancelled this From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar I have such fond memories of Fox Hollow in 1966 or 7. I got a gig at Cafe Lena out of it. After a heavy rainfall the organiser, # Beers, played wonderful water music on a large plucked dulcimer instrument. Grannie was ill in bed, so a long sound line was rigged so she could sing her famous version of Dumbarton's Drums to us. Then she said 'I love you all'. What a place! Ewan |

31 Aug 07 - 03:03 PM (#2137846) Subject: RE: fox valley folk festival cancelled this From: Phil Cooper Alas, Fox Valley is not the old Fox Hollow. I do recall years ago, at one of the first Fox Valley folk festivals, that it rained all day. It was only one day then. There were a dozen performers and about 60 audience members crammed in to a pavilion building. Everyone stayed till the end. Shame it couldn't be duplicated now. |
