The Shaw is the home of Barnsley folk club on Mondays {Sat this event]

It is Shaw Lane/St ish corner with Racecommon Road

quite quiet and on street parking, or round the pub

Should be enough seats obviously depends on arrival time and attendance, not a very big room ideal for singing/playing

Jct 37 M1 3/4 mile dead easy to find, coming into Barnsley, or just up from Townend round about, whichever way you are coming

A roundabout in the middle of Barnsley? Gosh, things have changed. I remember the middle of Barnsley being a square (Pit Street I think). Never mind, if we can make it we have a Satnav.

Yep Rhiannon time for another visit with Mick no doubt

Peel Street toilets and Pitt St still there, pedestrianised

King George still there but now KGV!

Townened had traffic lights, Wheatsheaf demolished for the roundabout and new roads in place

My 'regular' (not very local) was called something like the Chennells Bar.

Yep Chennells still there opposite Corner Pin and all on the infamous Wellington St which is wall to wall pubs nearly

Chennels has a very long bar!

The Bodega was a favourite bar but now part of the Chennels

Dave Bottomley has written a great song called The Bunny Run about Friday night in Barnsley, and the social "intercourse" of the young 'uns

Hi Ray. Hoping we can get a small Huddersfield contingent over tomorrow including Macca, Dozy Rozy, Sheila and myself ( though I have yet to tell them about it!!)
Is there any decent hand-pulled real ale served at The Shaw and when does the bar shut and session finish?
Also, is it all booked artists or is it also an open singaround?
Cheers mate.
Chris

It is not all guests it is a singaround format, but should have one or two people not able to come to the Mon club coming along!

Starts officially at 8pm singers and ppl accompanying themselves etc
get there for 7.30pm

be good to see you all and Dozy Rosy

Shuts when they chuck us out!

Cheers

Hi Ray

Would it be possible to bring our well behaved and folk loving Yorkie along? He loves festivals etc and is an excellent meeter and greeter and doesn't join in the singing.

Sadly for a couple of reasons we can't leave him in the evening at the moment.

Just got back from a super evening. The standard of singing was exceptional. Well done, Ray, for organising this.

Rhiannon

P.S. Do you think the landlord will replace the light bulbs in the near future? 3 out of 6 out makes a dim room!

I dunno Rhiannon!! can but ask

I must try to drink much less!

The standard with Mick Pearce, Jock o'Dreams, North/South Annie, Jim Potter, Alama, John Platt, David Kidman, John Booker and the Barnsley crowd! made a great night

Jock/Jim presented JB with a fine framed photo taken last Easter

John is very pleased to have it, many thank Jim [Jock O'Dreams]

That is the clubroom for Mondays of course

What this space for probably developments for Easter good or bad!

Very enjoyable evening, excellent standard of singing all round. Thanks Ray. Shame I was driving, that Barnsley beer you were drinking looked like good stuff!
