"It's been joy to watch him spar with you," Bush told the White House press corps in the briefing room. Snow, who had said recently that he would leave before the end of Bush's presidency, said cancer was not the reason he was stepping down. Instead, the father of three said he needs to make more than his White House salary of $168,000. He can earn far more money on the speechmaking circuit. |

Yes he is conservative but both sides could see him foundering while trying to spin for some of Bush's better blunders. Painful. Add chemotherapy and the pain was just too great to bear. |

He gets what the market bears, which all of us should do. I won't criticize someone for making too much money if someone is willing to pay them. Frankly, I am surprised the the job paid that much. Where does the money come from? Government job? |

It should be fun to watch the carnage as it happens over the next year. Bush and Cheney may be the only ones left by next August. Everyone else will be on corporate boards... -Joe- |

31 Aug 07 - 11:57 PM (#2138156) Subject: RE: BS: Tony Snow Resigns From White House From: Stilly River Sage Politics aside, cancer is scary. Fighting it in such a public way is tough. He has a family and he probably is trying to provide a nest egg of some sort for them. I read some time back that he wasn't going to stay till the end of the term, that he'd leave when he ran out of money. D.C. is an expensive place to live, too. Lots working against him. Where are James Carville and Mary Matalin when you need them? It is possible to set aside politics and see the person. Sometimes. I don't manage very often with Dubya, and never with Rove, but Snow has plenty of humanity that peeks through. SRS |

Many in the Bush Administration deserve the ridicule they get here, but perhaps not Tony Snow. I wish him well. ...but I'll still be glad when Bush and his minions are gone. -Joe- |
