02 Sep 07 - 03:15 PM (#2139052) Subject: What is your favorite band name? From: GUEST,Texas Guest Well, I haven't given this a ton of thought but I saw a thread posted today by the, "Flying Chaucers," and I thought - wow, what a great name for a band - so my lot is is cast with the Flying Chaucers; but, what is your favorite band name; and yes, you can list more than one. In fact, you can even put forth a band name that no one has ever used but you think would be a great name. I always though "Truncheon" would be a great name for a metal band. Have fun. Cheers. |

The first all female rock group in Oz (in the early 70s) that I heard about was called "Hen's Teeth"; unfortunately they didn't last very long. A couple of years later another all female rock group formed in Sydney, called "The Ovarian Sisters"; I think they lasted 4-5 years. And, in the late 70s, I occasionally played (and sang the occasional shanty) with "Rum, Buggery and the Lash!" who did a great version of "Running Bare". Cheers, Rowan |

From: Richard Bridge Hi Georgie - Nick Pallett from Principal Edwards (they later shortened their name to that) was a mate of mine at university and he there had a band called the Nathaniel Clackthorne All-Rubber Band. One of my uni bands was Shaft and the Rocks (the lead singer was a mining engineer, see?) and one of my school bands was the Pink Perves. Another uni one was Wandering Hands and the Jailbait. I am also the oldest surviving member of Roger the Chorister. More currently, yes, I too think that the Flying Chaucers is a great name, and there is a snigger snogwriter female trio from somewhere near Cambridge called "Deadly Lampshade". I liked the in-your-face element of Courtney Love's band name "Hole", and also "the Slits". "The Chosen Few" is a pretty good name too. |

04 Sep 07 - 10:44 PM (#2141144) Subject: RE: What is your favorite band name? From: Little Hawk I think that The Rolling Stones was a hell of a good band name. Inspired. Nice that they also turned out to be a hell of a good band. Some other band names I think are quite good: The Band (The essence of simplicity! Smart.) The Mothers of Invention (although I did not like them much) The Grateful Dead (brilliant name!) The Viletones Stark Naked and the Fleshtones (a pun based on "The Viletones") Sex Pistols The Velvet Underground The Clash Voidoids Cardboard Brains Dead Kennedys (utterly tasteless...but very effective for its purpose) Bunchafuckingoofs (the most honestly named band in the history of punk rock!) Souxie and the Banshees Joan Jett and the Blackhearts King Crimson Meat Loaf (Conveys a lot, doesn't it? Or maybe not? Heh!) I put a lot of punk bands on the list, because I find their names hysterically amusing. It's very odd to base a musical movement on total loathing for self, society and others...but they somehow did it. Quite extraordinary in retrospect. |
