05 Sep 07 - 04:35 AM (#2141258) Subject: BS: WAAAAAH!! My baby grew up! From: Liz the Squeak Now I'm not usually given to public displays of sentimentality, but I've just seen Limpit off to 'big school' for her first day. We did the measuring thing before she left - she's grown a whole centimetre in 3 weeks, her uniform will soon be fitting her properly and she's elected to walk to school on her own... that cute little baby we used to peg out on a dog lead is growing up!! I may just have a little trip through the baby albums later. LTS |

I thought I'd be doing PMB's whoop but so far I'm feeling miserable and wondering why my maternal hormones have decided to kick in when I've spent so long looking forward to no washing, ironing, shouting and loud music.... It doesn't seem to get any easier! Good luck Barb'ry |

05 Sep 07 - 06:02 AM (#2141314) Subject: RE: BS: WAAAHHHH!! My baby grew up! From: Morticia I remember coming here to mourn when Pixie went off to her school graduation dance at 16.....my, have I really been here THAT long? Anyway, what I wanted to say was: don't be sad,the best bit, the bit where you get to meet the adult and not only love but like them, where you are overwhelmed with pride and wonder at the man or woman they have become, where you enjoy their company more than anyone else in the world, that's just around the corner and it's wonderful. |

I do remember those milestones though - the day my daughter moved from home into her own house it really hit me when I saw her totally empty room. I had forgotten there was a carpet in there - hadn't seen it in years! |

05 Sep 07 - 09:19 AM (#2141427) Subject: RE: BS: WAAAHHHH!! My baby grew up! From: Rapparee Don't let her go off to school alone. And go talk to the teachers, tell them what a delicate little blossom she is and all about her food and bathroom habits. Remind them that she isn't to play roughly and that because of her breathing problems she shouldn't be called upon too often in class. Give her little notes in her lunch or in her books that say things like "Mummy-kins and Da-da wove our liddle Ba-Ba-Boo vewy muchies." Call the school whenever the temperature outside drops to within ten degrees of freezing and remind them that she needs extra scarves and jumpers for the walk home...or better, send a cab 'round to pick her up. This sort of thing will guarentee an Empty Nest as quickly as possible. |

05 Sep 07 - 09:23 AM (#2141432) Subject: RE: BS: WAAAHHHH!! My baby grew up! From: Desdemona Oooooh, I know; mine are 12, 16 and almost 21, and it never gets any easier to send them off to a new place! BUT, it is so true that, as they get older, they get so much more interesting. As they develop their own ideas and opinions, and become increasingly able to share their views, spending time with them just gets more and more stimulating, and--yes--it gives me an enormous feeling of pride that they're turning out to be such smart, funny, insightful and interesting people. And don't forget, your little one still needs you, and will for a long time to come (I still need my mother, for a whole host of reasons). When she comes in this afternoon, knackered from her first day of "big" school, it's your face she'll be looking for, and your ear she'll want to fill with all the details. Enjoy! ~D |

From: Rapparee Huh...when my wife was Assistant General Counsel at a noted US University, a lawsuit was filed which said, in essence, since the University accepted my kid it owes him a degree, no matter that he had a flat grade point average of 0.1 in his first semester and 0.0 in his second (on a 4.0 point scale). This was filed three (3) times in court; on the third it was summarily dismissed "with prejudice." |

05 Sep 07 - 11:11 AM (#2141554) Subject: RE: BS: WAAAHHHH!! My baby grew up! From: Stilly River Sage My daughter is a sophomore at the university now, and has rented a house with four friends, one of them is her boyfriend. She just turned 19. Considering the choice of moving to campus and experimenting with different date partners or finding a nice pleasant young man to spend her time with I can't really argue. I hope she learns to take care of herself, though. She went from home to a dorm for a year where the school "took care" (after a fashion) of her, and now this house. At least she'll have to figure out how to pay her share of the bills. My son is a sophomore in high school and it has been quite nice being able to engage in conversations with him as the lone teen in the house. The dynamic is different with two of them together. Not bad, just different. I am seeing the kid on his own now. There are times he misses having his sister here, because they get along well, but he's doing okay. I agree with Kendall, they become more interesting as they grow up and I enjoy some of the visits with Moonglow when she can set aside the pouting teenager hat. She's getting better at that all of the time. SRS |

I've loved seeing my 2 young ladies turning into just that, and their patience with me. I say to the younger one, "Wow, I bought my first things off Amazon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i typed away, and the order went ping!! and then, then, two days later, the CDs flopped on the mat without me moving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and she, at 21, sighs and says, "Dad, that's like going into the newsagent, asking for The Guardian, paying and getting it." It's not that long since you kindly walked him to the bus for us at Sidmouth...now he'd have to walk you! When I was shopping this morning, I saw a couple of mothers with pushchairs and several small children. They were stopped behind a sandwich board and one had produced a potty which the little boy(Aged about2) had just used. She was saying "Good Boy!" and the look of pride on his little face was a picture. It takes you back..... Love Lynne |

07 Sep 07 - 03:17 AM (#2143073) Subject: RE: BS: WAAAHHHH!! My baby grew up! From: Liz the Squeak Ah, Gurney.... I have no fond rememberances of those days - I am not the maternal type (unless it's a young, nubile 20yr old lad who needs comfort and succour) so never had any trouble with nostalgia of that type. What I do miss is the happy little thing that would willingly come when I called, pick up things when she dropped them and spend more time on her bike than on a computer. I just know she's going to 'big' school to learn more bad teenager habits....! LTS |
