06 Sep 07 - 04:47 PM (#2142728) Subject: The latest on Kendall's voice From: kendall Well, I'm back from Boston, and here's what the man said. After nearly two hours of manual manipulation of my larynx, and squeezing my throat like he was trying to throttle me, and asking me to make a myriad of sounds, he said, there is a voice there, and it needs three things to bring it out. 1.Patience 2.Determination 3.Confidence Also, to continue working with my therapist in Portland, and regular sessions with Dr. Roediger, my ENT, and with Dr. Shapshay, the surgeon, to be sure the cancer does not return. The exercises he gave me are silly sounding, and boring. Some of them are painful, which goes against my nature. No pain, no pain is my motto. But, I know Jacqui is going to crack the whip and make me miserable if I don't keep up with my end of the deal. He also said that I probably shouldn't expect a call for me to replace Pavarotti. |

This sounds fairly positive to me. Keep up the PITA exercises and do everything Jacqui tells you to like a good old duffer ( or at least pretend to). Good on ya. Sandy |
06 Sep 07 - 04:53 PM (#2142740) Subject: RE: The latest on Kendall's voice From: Midchuck It is absolutely necessary that you persevere. Jacqui needs constant lecturing concerning her flaws of character, and I'm too busy with my own wife to come over there and do it. Peter |

It has taken me until now to remember how to breath deeply enough to get enough O2 without a tank AND get my body in good enough condition to start exercising. Anyway, it would be a shame for that voice to be stilled. So do you exercises, because I'm retired now, and having gone to a police academy run by the NJ State Police, I haved an idea of how to push someone. YOU CALL THAT VOCALIZING? MY TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CAN SING BETTER THAN THAT! WE CAN STAND HERE ALL DAY IF WE HAVE TO. LET'S GO LET'S GO LET'S GO, I WANT SOME SINGING DAMN YOU, I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, THAT'S NOT SINGING, THAT'S WHINING. MAYBE YOUR MOMMY THINKS THAT'S SINGING, BUT I AIN'T YOU MOMMY AND I WANT TO SING LIKE A MAN AND IF YOU CAN'T WE'LL JUST SEND YOU HOME TO YOUR MOMMY BECAUSE I DON'T THINK YOU CAN HANDLE IT!!!!! And we can go on like that all day. You don't want that. So, do what Jacqi and the rest of the folks up there tell you and we'll all be happy. Steve |

13 Sep 07 - 08:53 AM (#2148225) Subject: RE: The latest on Kendall's voice From: Rapparee Now, if you want to get the rest of that voice out, stick a couple fingers down your throat (best cover 'em with Vaseline first). Fish around down there until you grab onto it and pull 'er up! If it isn't your voice, toss 'er back -- this is catch and release stuff. Alternately, go down to one of them touristy-type shops (they're all over Maine, so you won't have to go far) and get one of those tiny little lobster traps they sell as earrings or ornaments for the Christmas tree. Tie a good stout string to it, bait 'er up, and swallow it (tie the free end of the string around your ear). Ever so often, haul 'er in and see what you've got. Now these are called "alternative medical therapies" and they're pretty much ignored by mainstream medicine. So don't tell your doctor. |
