Jimmyt's musical going well

I wanted to report that I have written a musical review of do-wop music and it has opened to sold-out houses the first 2 nights, and will probably sell out this weekend as well. I have set the story as a nostalgia tour of a semi-over-the-hill group from 1966 who are on their way to Disney with their wives, repeating their tour stops they made 40 years ago. It is absolutely mindless, silly, hokey. ridiculous, but seems to be really popular with the theater patrons.

I have had many people call me and say it is the best time they have had in 30 years. Musically it is pretty well done, and the theater part is very relaxed and allows lots of audience interaction. My group, the Classics, is having the time of their lives once again and we will generate about $5000 profit for the local community theater. 2 of our quartet are cancer survivors in the last 5 years so I am just thrilled to be performing at all!
I just wanted to make this announcement. This Saturday, I perform with the Peacock Alley Blues band at 11 AM, at noon with the Brookwoods , my folk geoup, and 7 pm my play, "Classics Road Trip" is playing followed by a 2 hour sing at a local wine bar after the show. I will be one tired, but fulfilled musician by midnight!

Wonderful idea! Congratulations on your success! Hope you're still in a mood for doo-wop at the Getaway--not doo-wopped out. Doo-wop will live forever--mainly 'cause it's great FUN!

Kansas City has a group of old guys called Freddie and the Doo Wops who do something similar - sing the rock 'n' roll hits of the fifties.

When I was a kid, those songs were like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. I hated that music. But now when I hear Freddie and the Doo Wops perform it, I enjoy it much more. I've decided that they have much better voices, and that makes all the difference.

Congratulations on your show, which may have made the same happy discovery.

As katlaughing suggested, any chance of putting a chunk of it on YouTube? After all, all it needs is someone with camera and a computer...

Congratulations, Jimmyt!!

I'm curious, which songs are featured in your musical, "Classics Road Trip"?

Also, I second-or third-the idea about documenting portions of your show, if not the entire show, by contacting Mudcatter open mike or another videographer.

Thanks, Jimmyt.

That's a great song list!!!

My favorite song on that list is "16 Candles" {is that the one that goes "16 candles make a lovely light/but it's not as bright/as your eyes tonight"?.

If so, then yes, that's definitely my favorite.

Well, actually my favorite song is "Unchained Melody".

No, it's "Tears On My Pillow".

Okay-here's my real favorite-Blue Moon.

No it's In the Still of the Night.

Oh shucks! I can't decide.

They're all great!

Thanks for the kind words Azizi.   Chance It was a musical revue I wrote and performed the last 2 weekends with my do-wop group, The Classics. We have been singing on and off for 10 years now and this is one of several musicals I have put together for the Artistic Civic Theater in Dalton, Georgia. It is a theater group that I helped start 16 years ago, has a nice theater that seats a35 and we pretty much filled it for 4 performances. A lot of fun and the patrons seemed to really like it a lot. We closed last night then went to a local wine bar and did another 2 sets for the folks there and finished up at 11 pm. All in all, a nice musical day.
