we're of to Poland for a wedding.I am to be best man.AlsoI have been booked to do a session two nights before the main event. Two songs have been requested.1.Mr Harris-Aimee Mann and 2.Danny Boy(no surprise).Im thinking songs with easy chorus and clapping ,wild rover for example.Ill be joined by flute, box and bodhran so there'll be plenty of diddely. What song would you do?Also ,suggestions for a speech. The groom is from Manchester, fluent in Irish, likes whiskey and plays bodhran.

Manitas is fond of 'If I had a wife, the plague of my life'... I'm just waiting for him to buy me the boat.

It's rather surprising, but I can't think of any well-known Irish songs with a chorus that the general public can join.

Wild rover is too slow and sad, even if it does have a chorus. And it's bad karma for a wedding.

Are your listeners going to be Irish or Polish? Here are a few songs that are apt to be known by both groups.

Oh Susannah
Edelweiss
Happy Wanderer
Loch Lomond

Mairi's Wedding has the right spirit and a good chorus.

The McAlmans recorded another happy little wedding song with a ho-ri-ho-ro chorus:

Spinner's Wedding (Jessie's Gettin' Married)

There is a posting with three links to other threads with wedding song suggestions in them HERE.

If you put "wedding" in the search box for thread titles and set the date back a ways, there are others more specific, i.e. for Irish, etc.

Poland looks like a lot of fun from what we saw on tv, written about in this thread. I reckon if your audience will be Polish, they'd probably not mind a couple of Marty Robbins tunes.

As for speeches, have a look at THIS and, THIS. **BG**

Have fun!

thanks lf and katdo either have a shared melody/one I would recognise? As for wild rover, making a promise to settle down and give up the gargle isnt so bad.Mairis Wedding, why didnt i think of it.Of course theres "maids when your young"
Looks like Im going to be joined by a box player and flute ,the groom himself(bodhran),I imagine the polish will throw in a song or two,so between the jigs and reels it looks like we,re in for a good night.kat, Ive seen those sights, thanks, would anyone have a bodhran player joke?
