I heard her sing it, and I was told (later) that she had recorded it, but I've not found it anywhere. Can anyone help here?

It's on Unearthed by Nic Jones but as far as I can see June Tabor hasn't recorded it. As Dick says, Ms Lister should be along soon.

On the Fellside Landmarks triple CD it's recorded by Anonyma.
No, I have no recollection either but found them under Scots & Irish Traditional.
Whoops again.
Tabster is Anne Lister's Mudcat name.

Anonyma was Anne Lister and Mary McLaughlin, no doubt Anne will reveal all

Oh I'm sure she'll be really pleased at being labelled thus,
Thanks, Mr Google.
You can get Unearthed here.

Well if you like Nic Jones that much Diane I've just added tracks from Unearthed, The Noah's Ark Trap, Bandoggs, Penguin Eggs, From the Devil to a Stranger, Nic Jones (second solo) and "The Halliard It's the Irish in me". I'll be sure to include Icarus in the playlist... cheeky I know.

I know that Maggie Holland used to sing it as well and it was played on Folk on Two, though I don't know if she recorded it, it might have been a studio session.

Maggie Holland's version of this fine song can be found on her 1983 album, Still Pause (Rogue Records)

Didn't Maggie Holland take over from Linda Thompson in the Mysteries after it moved from the Cottesloe to the Lyceum in 1985?

Just caught up with this thread - sorry, was away!

As far as I know, June Tabor has never recorded my song "Icarus". There is a persistent myth around though that says she has - if so, I've never seen or heard a copy of it! Nor have I ever heard her singing it, although I've been told she has done. There are numerous artists out there who have recorded it, however, including Maggie Holland, Robin Laing, Gerry Hallom and Martin Simpson, and Martin was performing it (I believe) while he was still gigging with June. Which might explain some of the confusion. Among others who have certainly performed it (but not necessarily recorded it) are Archie Fisher and Garnet Rogers.

Always happy to hear of more, though ...

Anne (yes, Lister)

I too have performed it but never recorded it,in fact I performed it at Whitby festival at a benefit concert for the late Peter Bellamy , in my humble opinion a Very good song
Thanks Anne for writing it,
I believe Derek Brimstone used to perform it too.Dick Miles

It is largely due to Nic Jones that the song became well known.

How very strange.
I was ratting for something else last night, and found a broadsheet of Icarus with my other music books. I noticed Anne had written it. It took me back to PERFORM meetings, which Anne also attended. I guess I must have had the broadsheet from Anne. We once had a meeting at St Martin In The Fields. I wonder if it was from that day?

Hi Anne. I was the lunatic who jumped out of the plane to raise money for PERFORM in '84.
I now share the house with an osteopath's practise. There is a direct connection between these two facts.

Done boring.
Irene

Don't you mean "practice"? - quite a common mistake.
