Any Traditional Singers Clubs in NE/USA

I haven't hear of any & was just wondering if there any Traditional singers clubs existed in the the North East area of the US. I'm not asking about singer's circles at someones home. A public venue where singers/sinners would regularly gather. There was one in Boston that lasted for a few yrs that sadly evaporated in 2001 & I've heard that there might have been or still be something in NYC. Any help.

Barry

It was at a singer's night at a pub in Boston where I first met Barry. Damn, those were fun nights. Worth driving all the way in from MetroWest for. Funny, but I can't recall the pub's name. Some Irish-type pub near Government center.

There is a sing-around in Gloucester (MA-USA) that is run by the Schooner Adventure folks on Tuesday nights. Maybe Doryman will pipe in here and tell us about it.

It sure would be nice to have a singers' night like we used to have on those Wednesday nights.

Those were great nites at Paddy Doyle's Dec, met you & Murry too with Kat.
I'm headed off to the one in Gloucester shortly & well tell Peter to check in.
That's a nice shanty session. The Resturant/Pub is a waterfont place Cameron's) where the locals drop in to drink, they may not sing alot but they do enjoy singing along to some of it & then there's a number of locals (young one too) that drop in just to listen & there quite a few good & great singer's too. I just got my hands on a song/shanty written by a retired merchant mariner who singers there. It's called "" written by Roger Hussey who crewed on the Norwegian tanker MST Borjholt & whose run was from Venezuela To Trinidad & back again. It's a great song with an unusual refrain & chorus & tune.

Anyway you should come by some nite & join us.

Wow, Barry, now that you mentioned it, it was Paddy BURKE'S!! Pretty cool place too. Too bad they kicked us out. Seems the only one of us that was drinking his fill was Shay :-)

I've been trying to get up to Gloucester, and maybe in the next few weeks I will. I have some business up in Marblehead and can possibly arrange it for a Tuesday.

We sure did miss you on sat., Barry.

That'd be great Deb, if you do let me know so I can be sure to go that nite, I don't go every evening but do try to make it as often as possible.
I see I left out, above, the name of the new shanty I picked up at the Gloucester sing. It's called "Venezuela To Trinidad", stealing that song itself was worth the going.

Hi Giok, I was hoping to hear for a few more from the NYC area, for an update.

Stallion, when you know the venue please post it & I'll do my best to be there & let others know about it too. That's a thrusday nite, have you guys plans for Friday nite? There's the Press Room session.

Hey Barry...
Good sing last night.
We have a sing every Tuesday evening at Cameron's, 206-8 Main Street in Gloucester, MA. In our third year of each and every Tuesday evening. Expanding continually with new participants, onlookers and regulars who learn learn and expand their song base. Mostly sea related venue with chanteys, ballads and sea songs form all eras and all parts of the world and a mix of good traditional folk stuff. Concertinas, fiddles, flutes, mandolins, whistles, bag pipes, penny whistles, melodians and guitars are present weekly. Starting time is about 8:30 to 9 pm and it ends at last call around 12:30 a.m. Lots of good singers with a participating audience and that equals a lot of fun and good song.
We have had people drop in from all points of the globe in their travels. Owners are great. Weekly food put out each week for visitors. Bar prices are very reasonable. Good place...not a dive. Larger than large area to fit up to 100 people.....seated. Affiliated with Schooner Adventure's Three Sheets to the Wind Chantey group.
Something or someone new each and every week. Nice crowd of folks who enjoy the evening.   www.schooner-adventure.org
Drop by and sing a few....

Barry,
Our flights have been re scheduled from Saturday to Friday, we are all exceedingly pissed about it so, what would have been Friday night is now Thursday. Originally we were asked to do 350 gigs all over the states but I had to point out that we had "day" jobs, then they asked us to do 15, I have said that we will do one and see how it goes, they have fifteen outlets in Boston, they are presently checking to see which one will be the best, so, when I know I will post a thread.
cheers
Pete
