Mudcat Special Favor for a Friend

Totally from out where the buses don't run (and where my mind resides).

Will you help me celebrate a close friend's achievement? Wayne Leading was a 25 year paramedic/EMT when the governmemnt closed the airbase where he worked. Wayne had no college credits, but at age 46, decided to pursue a degree as a Physician's Assistant. He was accepted in the PA program at an excellent PA college (Kettering in Dayton). He had to take all the prerequisite courses and then be accepted into the PA program. This he did. After 3 years,he graduates from the PA program this week.

What else--He has a wife and two boys, plus a 21 year old daughter who moved back home with her husband into an addition he added...and then presented him with a grandson. But he graduates with his family intact, and closer than ever. For most of the time he has driven a 200 mile/day round trip to attend Kettering. And he has gone year round with no time off. His wife Connie teaches full time so many people have helped out--the boys home school and have spent the 3 years with me during the day. With all this, he has still made time for family and friends, though I don't know how. He graduates with a 3.3 GPA. I couldn't have done it.

Will you help me do a little something that he'll get a kick out of??? Send him an e-mail...doesn't have to say more than CONGRATS. Use your Mudcat name if you like, and you can say anything else you want...like, "How do you stand catspaw?" Whatever, but just take a minute and send a quick e-mail. If you need additional persuasion, I'll send Paw, Cletus, Reg, Reg, and Reg around to see you.

Wayne and Connie are our closest friends, they are our "family." The e-mail address is:

leadingus@juno.com

Thank you 'Catters in advance. I love this place and I know you'll come through...it's a great community we have here.

No problem, 'Spaw, as long as he can't see how green with envy I am that he has actually laid eyes on YOU! What an incredibly kind and good friend you are to care so much.

Love to you all,

Ok, done. I was impressed with his accomplishment. I went back to college at age 32, finally graduating at age 35, so I can relate. But Wayne's doing it at age 46 is even more of a feat.

By doggies, you keep up this sort of thing, Catspaw, and you're gonna lose your reputation as a smart-ass. Message to Wayne and Connie on its way.

Catspaw, are we getting a follow up on this? Will he thank us personally on Mudcat? Will he never want to speak to you again? Is he now convinced that we are a bunch of nurdy guitar-playing layabouts with far too much time on our hands? Enquiring minds want to know.

The poor guy's e-mail server must have crashed with all the messages he got, Rick. Is Catspaw in the doghouse again? No doubt. (grin)

Catspaw,

I've been away a day, but I just e-mailed Wayne and family even before I got to the bottom of this thread. I figure, better late than never, and besides, I had a good excuse, just ask Marge!

I did suggest they keep their kids away from you. Surely you are a corrupting influence! A certain danger! :-)

In real life, I work for a college, all of whose students are like Wayne. So if you will forgive a commercial interlude:

Thomas Edison State College is a distance learning college for adults (fully accredited by Middle States and all that)offering a wide variety of majors in the liberal arts, business, applied science and technology, and human services at the bahelor's and associate level. Students (average age 39) put together their degrees from college credits previously earned, examinations, distance learning courses, credit for military training (US), certain licenses, certificates, and company training, and assessment of prior learning. There is also a web-based Master of Science in Management. I run the applied science and technology program. It is not necessary to come to New Jersey or even to take any of your credits thru us. For more info for you or someone you know, contact me at the member e-mail, or digitrad2@sprintmail.com or sfriedman@tesc.edu or visit the web site (not as good as this one) www.tesc.edu

I wouldn't worry about it, if he publicly admits to knowing Catspaw he probably fears nothing!
