It's an instrumental on the Alan Lomax recording of Margaret Barry, She Moves Through the Fairs. thesession.org seems to indicate it may be strictly an instrumental tune. MIDI, ABC, and notation available here (click). -Joe- |

13 Sep 07 - 08:08 AM (#2148186) Subject: RE: Tune Add: The Strayaway Child From: McGrath of Harlow Here it is in standard notation. Ascribed here to Michael Gorman rather than Margaret Barry, which seems likely enough. With an mp3 of Michael playing it. |

14 Sep 07 - 08:45 PM (#2149564) Subject: RE: Tune Add: The Strayaway Child From: Fliss Ive not heard any lyrics to it Joe. Dont really know much about its composers, one site says they were married to each other. Im still at the stage of listening to the tune in the sessions and humming along. We are going to have a go at learning it in our Sunday practice sessions. Thanks for the link to the notation, it was great to hear it being played. I notice Gorman is a Sligo fiddler. Ive been to the Coleman Heritage Centre in Gurteen, Co. Sligo, with my fiddle friend Anne Marie McGowan, and played in sessions in pubs there with Peter Horan... a great privilege. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0CTHmQ2Jus slan fliss |
