Should be available on BBC Radio 4 Listen Again as "Choice of the Day" - well worth a listen (not for the prudish!) |

Check out the Hokum Boys on the Document label, and the Famous Hokum Boys on Wolf. Then there are some compilations: "Raunchy Business - Hot Nuts and Lollipops", "Bed Spring Poker - Meat In Motion 1926-1951", and "She's Your Cook But She Burns My Bread Sometimes". OK, that's not "blues," and neither is "Baby, Let Me Bang Your Box" (as in "Let me play your guitar") by "The Hot Nuts." But jazz/pop/country/folk/blues suggestive (wink wink nudge nudge Know what I mean?) lyrics are a wonderful subset of the music of us "folks." Ruth Brown just passed away this last year (or so), and she had a wonderful song about an "Easy Chair," in which she proclaimed: "If I can't sell it, I'm gon' keep settin' on it. I ain't gon' give it away." Wunnerful! |
