I can't find a publishing date. 1st and 2nd pages are blank. The first page with writting says Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson has a picture of a lantern, then it has a quote "With the wind of God in her vesture,proclaiming the deathless, ever-soaring spirit of man." Locke. At the bottom is says The Goldsmith Publishing Company, Chicago Ill. Made in U.S.A. Plus a copy of their logo at the bottom. How old? Or how do I find out? Thanks!!!! |

Try the reference or the rare book section of the nearest big library. Lacking that, antiquarian booksellers are often delighted to help with questions like this. |

A fine copy will set you back about $10,000. A 1911 edition illustrated by N. C. Wyeth is about $600, and the Oxford Press edition with Rowland Hilder illustrations about $500. |

I also remember from childhood "The Gold Bug," by Poe, a short story that first came out in 1843. Both caught me firmly and I have re-read both several times. |

She was recovering from a slight stroke and could only sit out in the garden that season, and it seemed to have been a warm , bee and wasp filled one. The story thrilled us as I know it still can thrill youngsters. I read it for my own kids a fedw years ago also and anytime they see or hear of it on TV they say how they recall the story of "Young Áwrkins" but the character who seems to have delighted my son most is ...Ben Gunne (A tribute, no doubt, to my acting skills) |
