BS: Is that whats troubling you bunky?

So you tell me you stayed up until 4 in the morning with a new toothache caused by the dentist, tuned into clear channel's coast to coast wierd science radio show hosted by intelligent design creationist George Noory who reported that a meteor made a 400 foot wide 90 foot deep crater in Peru where locals are falling sick by the dozens from the burnt smell and then 5 hours later you see the same story scrolling at the bottom of a CNN non stop coverage (to the exclusion of ALL other news) on OJ Simpson.

Is that whats got you down Bunky? Well you gotta stand up, stick out your chin and tell yourself you'll never give up and never give in to poppycock, gobbledeegook and bruhaha.

So you say while in the waiting room you read a blurb in Newsweek about decommisioned B-52's flying over the US with unauthorized H bombs on board. Then later you watched a TV talk show about a miissing US H bomb that must be sjust some kind of clerical error some goverment boy scount elevated from molehill to mountain.

Is that whats got you down Bunky? Well you gotta stand up, stick out your chin and tell yourself you'll never give up and never give in to poppycock, gobbledeegook and bruhaha.

So you say you have second thoughts about writing your congressman about your concerns because it might be filed under Taser worthy.
You feel that all the mysterious missing data on your computer is more than a coincedence. You say its kind of wierd that Sally Field's mention of the word "war" is enough to cause the entire FOX network to instantly make the Emmy award show go black for 10 seconds.

Is that whats got you down Bunky? Well you gotta stand up, stick out your chin and tell yourself you'll never give up and never give in to poppycock, gobbledeegook, bruhaha and conspiracy.

So you feel confused that your neighbor would ask from the curb what it is that you're building in there, since you have no idea what he is talking about. You say that a normal day is now like chapter of 1984 sprinkled with Kurt Vonnegutesque high wierdness on a bed of corporate controled free market twillight zone sparkling in a fresh coat of lead paint?

Is that whats got you down Bunky? Well you gotta stand up, stick out your chin and tell yourself you'll never give up and never give in to poppycock, gobbledeegook, bruhaha, conspiracy and fear.

For the record, it wasn't 'war' that got Sally Field bleeped. (I agree with her, by the way.)

Does anyone recall the "old philosopher"?
He was a pre Irwin Cory comedian/philosoper.

I didn't watch the Emmys, what did get her bleeped?

No, Donuel, I've never heard of him.:-)

There's nothing about Simpson on Al-Jazeera, but they do cover the "meteor crater" in Peru.

I don't think that the crater was caused by W.

Oh for Christ's bloody sake. They shut down the Emmies because Sally Fields said "Goddam"??? Of all the piss-ant, pantywaist, mush-brained, Victorian half-witted milksop emotional knee-jerk stupidity!! On the other hand, she would have done well to come up with a more colorful, perhaps Elizabethan, equivalent. More protection under artistic license that way. Fox sucks.

No, they didn't "shut down" the Emmys. They bleeped the phrase, "Goddamn war." All live events on tv are now on a 10-second delay because the networks are deathly afraid of the FCC and their draconian enforcement of the "decency" rules.

The entire sentence: Let's face it: If it were up to the women there would be no goddam wars in the first place.

If it was bleeped how did you hear it, or did you read it the next day? Just wondering. It really is bushite that they did so.

Go, Sally!!

Ebbie-
A charming sentiment, but I suspect that you haven't met the women who have the personalities required to seek high office.

Most people can usully figure out what was bleeped from context or by lip-reading.

But - Sr. Bertrille said that?

Don't think so, Dick. Mothers don't like to send their children into battle.

And since it was widely covered on both television and in the newspapers, it was hardly "censored."

The whole thing is on YouTube.

I'm of two minds as to the "charming sentiment", Dick. :) It doesn't seem to hold water. To mangle a metaphor.

*I* remember The Old Philosopher...maybe because I wuz wun.

"Keep your head up high, with that dignity & sticktoitofness...and you'll never give up-- never give up"

Wasn't it part of a record? I can almost hear him in my head, by can't remember the context)

But on the whole, it's an accurate sentiment.

The bias toward late-middle-aged males is such that when a woman DOES break into the circle, she has become far more callous and jaded than her gender at large, IMHO. It's the nature of the game to get battle-scarred and toughened, clawing your way through the wolf-pack.

Thanks for all of the above for stitching together the bits and pieces of reality of our friend Donuel's post so I can understand it.

Sad to hear that Peru is destroyed. I was thinking of going there sometime but maybe I still will given that there are even more ruins there. I love ruins!

I also missed the "Emmies" whatever they are but I'm glad that Sally Fields said something that was worth bleeping. We should all stand up and be bleeped more!

Evidently no one since Arlo Guthrie has referenced "father-rapers" but they ought to be brought back into focus too.

And, Amos, it's appropriate when referencing the wolf pack to hoooowwwwlllll!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

i remember watching the Old Philosopher, Eddie Lawrence, on tv in the early or mid-sixties. on Carson, maybe. here's the wikipedia bio.

"Hello, there, my friend.
"You say your old man dressed up as Santa Claus and can't get his belly through the fireplace?
"And you hang up a purple bulb on the tree and three thousand volts go
through ya?
"And your brother made an animal cage out of your Erector set, and Grandma can't get out?
"And someone opened a window while you're sortin' stamps and all your triangles are flying around the house?
"And one of your gifts, a strange little shiny box, suddenly takes off and is now circling the earth at twelve-hundred miles-an-hour?

"Is that what's troublin' you, bunky?!?

[cue music]

"WELL, PUT YOUR HEAD DOWN LOW AND TAKE A RUN FOR IT!! YOU'LL NEVER GIVE UP...NEVER GIVE UP...NEVER GIVE UP.....THAT SHIP!!!"

mrdux - exactly. Eddie Lawrence was sort of a pre curser of Rodney Dangerfield who then made the routine self effacing and personal.

jeffp

NOT to put too fine a point on it , FOX did not bleep OR bring the audio down to inaudible for Sally (as they did with other guests that night)THEY WENT TO BLACK WITH NO AUDIO OR PICTURE. Jeez you'd have thoght that Bush just admitted bringing down the towers was his idea...AKK AKK GO GO t0 Black!!

and what about these obscure H bomb stories that have barely made the news these last 2 weeks?

Bread and circuses. Give the people an OJ story to keep them busy and away from anything that might be serious.

Why is it that some people understand the dangers of bread and circus mentality, while others don't know their guns from their butter?
