What's On ? - Diary Notes

Hello there.

Just a thought but so many events seem to get overlooked because dates don't appear in the thread title or quickly disappear into the ether because not enough people notice and it falls off the page.

This is a shame because there are so many briliant events going off on both sides of the pond and people like to know what is coming up in good time so that they can plan ahead and put it in their diary.

So, just a thought as I say, but why not post advance notice of events here so people can trawl through and see what's on, what's coming up and what tickles their fancy (so to speak).

Word of caution though folks. Dates are important so the date of the event should be stated first followed by a brief and succinct description of the event, including times, venue, artists, special happenings etc.

These need to be short adverts like you would put in your local newspaper/poster/flyer/folk magazine. In other words 'one-offs' without invitation to clutter up this this thread with messages about your particular event.

You can always direct them to post messages back to you by stating yor Mudcat thread title, website address or PM etc.

Events should include folk festivals, folk clubs, workshops, teaching and training and new innovations etc.

Obviously all events will be orientated to dates in the calendar so I need to make a special plea to Joe and 'the management' to scrub/delete/erase all messages that have passed their shelf life date-wise so the site is continually refreshed and uncluttered.
(pretty much as you would do in any corner-shop/newsagents/local rag etc!)

This could be too much to ask, but hey, you can only ask and hope.

Wassail.

Chris

Would it also be possible for Joe and 'the management' to shuffle any listings so they are in proper date order. Probably not. But, again, can only ask.

Hi, Chris -
It's a good idea, but it's a daunting project to keep a worldwide folk music schedule up-to-date. The PermaThread Index lists a good number of permanent threads that are (almost) all out of date. Bert did a sonderful job of the What's On thread, but he finally ran out of steam because it was just too much to keep up with it.
Susan of DT did a number of PermaThreads, including one on Events that I can't find just now.
That's something we're still kicking around. I think maybe a database will do the trick, but we haven't worked that up yet.

Thanks a lot Joe. Very much appreciate your comments.
I still think it would be a good idea but I never appreciated the complexities involved with maintaining and keeping up with such a thread. Perhaps a possibility in the future though. Thanks.
