21 Sep 07 - 02:16 AM (#2154072) Subject: 'Folk Orbit' website and 'zine From: Richard Bridge I am hearing good things about this site and 'zine as a resource for finding a folk or nufolk or neofolk (or acid folk or twisted folk or ARSS) place to go pretty well anywhere in the UK. I haven't explored the site or read the 'zine myself. folk orbit I am told that the guy who runs it is very responsive to updates which is very good in that web lists of folk seem to have the habit of listing what WAS on and where about 3 years ago. So get in there and send him updates! |

21 Sep 07 - 07:20 AM (#2154164) Subject: RE: 'Folk Orbit' website and 'zine From: LesB Folk Orbit the Mag has ceased publication This e-mail was received from Colin Mathews.......... "It is with much regret and a heavy heart that I need to discontinue the publication of the Folk Orbit 'Magazine'. There will be no October issue or following issues. The reasons being threefold: 1. My school, in which I taught, will be closing down in the near future. They have been good enough to print the magazines for the last 7 years with no rise in costs. They were considerably lower in cost compared to other printers from the outset. The Folk Orbit magazine has always, only just, kept its head above water economically and could not survive any increase costs. 2. I have assessed the money left in the Folk Orbit bank account and there is just enough money to return fees (at a pro-rata rate) to all advertisers and subscribers. If I leave it until after the October issue I will need to pay out of my own pocket up to £200 per month through to Xmas to close the Folk Orbit magazine down. The window of opportunity is now. 3. I have just received early retirement from my school and I only have one set week every month where I can leave the cares of the Folk Orbit, to go and do my own thing. When I was working I didn't mind, but now I am a free agent I want to travel etc. I have spoken with Helen Armstrong who voluntarily runs the Folk Orbit Website. She has worked tirelessly with artistic skill and dedication to produce, what I believe to be, the most comprehensive Folk website in Britain. Her only assistance with cost has been with broadband through the Folk Orbit, but this will now cease. Nevertheless, she is content to continue managing the website but in a much more cut down version. www.folkorbit.co.uk!" Shame but there is is...... Cheers Les |
