Some years ago The Wilsons recorded this song on an EP - which I can't find at the moment and I would really like the words.

Can anyone ,please,help me?

I know it starts
"we live in a mean world where nothing comes cheap"

Hi, Nutty.

1) Do you recall the song title?
2) The Wilsons, were they a group, duet, couple????
3) None of the words you cited help with Mr Google. Do you recall any other lyrics?

I have the EP and have typed up the words to this brill song. Can't lay my hands on either right now, but will do.
One line springs to mind though

"We're all in the same boat, lost at sea"
Or maybe two

"We're all on the breadline lost at sea.

The Wilsons are a group. A family, even. Unaccompanied harmony singers.

My daughter (Edain) went to Warwick a few years ago, her first unaccompanied festival. She rang us up late Saturday night. Are you well, we asked. Oh yes, I'm listening to the Wilsons in the late night concert. Shocked parents: you aren't using your mobile in the concert hall? Disdainful pause. No, I'm in my tent at the campsite. But I'm listening to the Wilsons in the late night concert.

Hi Hazel
Glad to help, please find the words below. Happy Singing.

LOST AT SEA
Clive Gregson

We live in a mean world where nothing comes cheap
We fight and we steal to be top of the heap
Where money is King and chaos is Queen
And we're all in the same boat, lost at sea

The rent's always due when the money runs out
When the landlord comes knocking we're never about
Now we're just as honest as poor folks can be
But we're all on the breadline, lost at sea

How can you borrow if no one will lend
What can you buy with nothing to spend
When living is hard the trouble comes free
And we're all in the same boat, lost at sea

With time on our hands the days always drag
But the highway to heaven's through a polythene bag
While the pimps and the pushers are out on the street
We're all in danger, lost at sea

We swim in an ocean of petrol and blood
We spin round in circles we sink in the mud
We drink to forget we sit down and weep
But we're still in the same boat, lost at sea
Still in the same boat, lost at sea

Thanks Pearl ... I was reminding The Wilsons about this song at Saltburn Festival.
Looks like they may be putting it back in the repertoire.

Isn't it sad that nothing has changed in the last 20 years.

For those who don't know the (wonderful) Wilsons: Santa's daughters tent could have been several fields away from the concert hall and she's still have heard every word!

Sorry!
The Wilsons recorded 'Lost at Sea' written by Clive Gregson, on a charity single in 1989 called 'The Third World War' another great song written by Kieth Handcock, about the famine in Africa. Two powerful songs, powerfully sang by the wonderful Wilsons. When people on the folk scene! go on about giving awards away for various reasons, I can never understand why the Wilson Family have never received any recognition for this excellent recording, and the cash they raised.

Liz.

It's also on 'Stocking Tops', but as I'm at work and my copy isn't, I can't tell you anything sensible about it like an ISBN or publication date.

I agree with all you said Liz, but I think it was a few years earlier, around 86/7.

I'm not the Liz above, she's another Liz!

The big African famine was 1984 - the one that Live Aid got all excited about and I suspect the Wilsons' contributions were swamped by the media scrum surrounding their concert and the Sainted Bob 'Gi'us yur foockin moonay' Geldof.

Thats a typical sort of statement you would expect from someone sat on their big fat arse, pretending to work all week and picking up a tidy little sum for the privilege! while people elsewhere in the world are starving to death.
