25 Sep 07 - 10:23 AM (#2157047) Subject: BS: Jenny O's Birthday From: jack halyard Avast, buckoes, Jenny O' is some unascertainable age on the 28th of Sept. Many happy returns, except of the wine and birthday cake. I believe there is a mudcat tradition of unbirthdays to certain people. Jenny O' could well fit the profile. Good 'ealth all, Jack Halyard |

Anyway, only one day to go now! It's a nuisance that I've got a stinker of a cold (first one in years), but I'm sure I'll manage somehow, with a little help from my friends :-) |

It's still afternoon (3pm) and a fairly quiet day so far - apart from the noise of the trucks picking up our rubbish, that woke me up at some ungodly hour - I managed to get back to sleep and have a nice dream before finally getting up. I'd be out in the garden, but it's hot and windy today. Might go and do a bit of shopping soon - then we go out tonight and celebrate. YAYYY!!! |

29 Sep 07 - 12:06 PM (#2159936) Subject: RE: BS: Jenny O's Birthday From: JennyO Well it's been a great Birthday weekend so far. We went out to a really wonderful Greek taverna last night. The Greek Lamb was to live for, and the service was excellent. As well as that there was live traditional music. John's eyes were out on stalks watching the bouzouki player (John plays an Irish bouzouki). Soon after we got home, there he was trying to pick out Zorba the Greek on his own bouzouki! Today, I had both my children and their partners and my 4 year old grandson Max all here for lunch. My son brought some chicken, salad and wine with him, so I didn't have to lift a finger. Then tonight I went to the Harp to have a nice meal with freda underhill and hilda fish followed by a concert with Dick Gaughan. Tomorrow is going to be chill-out day and I'm looking forward to pottering in the garden. Thank you everyone for your well wishes! |

30 Sep 07 - 07:26 AM (#2160337) Subject: RE: BS: Jenny O's Birthday From: JennyO Hello hilda fish - good night last night, wasn't it! I made the most of the perfect weather too, by spending time gardening. I was picking little weeds out of the garden with the lettuces and snow peas. It was very fiddly because that garden has a layer of compost on it, and all kinds of things have sprung up from seed - I can see a number of tomato plants, a few potato plants, and some plants that are either zucchinis or butternut pumpkins. They are all very small, and I had to weed all around them, as well as the lettuces which are spreading and growing fast. I'll have to rescue these little plants and find another home for them, as there is no room for them in there. I also found some tiny parsley plants in another garden that have sprung up from seed near their larger brothers and sisters. It was all very pleasant and relaxing, this kind of gardening. What is not so pleasant is that I have spotted the first stinkbugs of the season on the lemon tree. They are still small and rather hard to spot, but I have this method of grabbing them with long nose pliers and dropping them into a bucket of hot water when I find them. No mercy I'm afraid - they can be very nasty. Not only do they eat the tender new growth, but they squirt a foul smelling acid liquid at anyone who disturbs them. It can be very irritating if you get it on your skin, so I have to be very careful. I'd rather deal with them now when they are small than when they are bigger though. So this is birthday weekend. Tomorrow is a public holiday, so I have another similar day to look forward to tomorrow. I believe it's going to be warmer tomorrow - hot even! Oh well if it gets too hot I'll just go and play some more Pirates on Facebook and steal coins from my friends. Three of them are Mudcatters. Watch out me buckos. Buccaneer Pirate Cap'n Jenny is sailing again! |
