I know a beautiful French song, with lyrics, about music box dancers, very lovely, I'll try to find those if anyone is interested, although it isn't the answer to the Rabbi's lyr req...

This is that tinny little tune that was so popular back in the late 1970s or so?

I hate myself for liking this song. I must have no class whatsoever.

Personally, I favor Classical Gas wheb it comes to instrumental songs. :)

What an odd coinicidence - I was recently putting toegther a CD for my young nephew (age 3 years) and included this song as well as Frank Mills' one other "hit" Peter Piper, which is very similar. When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed it a=was a mudcat joke - you know - Lyric Req for an instrumental song?

Anyway - if anyone should care, you can get both Music Box Dancer and Peter Piper on iTunes. however, be sure to play the samples because Mills did a few rerecordings for later "Greatest Hits" rereleases and they are full onf synth crap background.

Yes, these are those tinny sounding piano hits from the mid 70s if anyone was wondering. Not nearly as good as Floyd Cramer's Last Date, but along the same lines I guess. I must confess, I have Floyd Cramer's Greatest Hits in my CD Collection!

No, the music to Music Box Dancer did not originate in Newfoundland and Labrador, but in Quebec, where Frank Mills was born and raised. Both he and the song have gained international fame, so I archived it simply because people were asking about it and couldn't find it. Now they can. :)
Here is the Frank Mills official biography:

I think that there are more than one set of lyrics for this song. Yesterday I received a midi-karaoke of this song done by Bunty Pritchard Jones of the UK. Her lyrics are entirely different from the ones posted here. I can not send this file on mudcat but I will gladly send it by e-mail to anyone who sends me a PM.

I will be off the board from now until 9 PM Saturday night in celebration of the Succos (Tabernacles) holiday. So to anyone who wants this file, you will have to wait until Saturday night for me to send it.

After sending Gest the midi-karaoke file, it was determined that the lyrics in the file were identical to the ones on her page. We can now conclude that there is only one set of lyrics for this song, those that were written by Norman Pollack in 1981.
