sessions etc near Canterbury? (kent)

Just wondering, since I've just arrived here for uni, if anyone had any reccomendations. Someone mentioned a session at a pub called the Beverly I think, but thought that there might be too many 'porridge beaters', which I presume is a reference to ever slower bodhran playing and similar aberations.

If you can make it up the M2, a yard or two, The Good Intent is worth a visit on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays

Eh, I'll have to see how good or bad the situation is transport-wise, but I'll bear it in mind at least. Thanks!

Greyhound, Maidstone, 2nd and 4th Mondays.

There used to be several sessions in Canterbury, and one in that nice pub on the river a little outside Canterbury to the East the name of which eludes me for the moment.

Bob and Kath Drage will know - they run a little mag called "around Kent Folk". There is also the EFDSS magazine called "Folk in Kent".

Folk at the Vine, Tenterden, I think is first Mondays every month.

Open House Acoustic, Maidstone, 1st 3rd and 5th Mondays.

Faversham Folk Club, (not a session) Wenesdays.

Ask Andy Perkins (Andy Perkins Traditional instruments - in phone book - he is also based in Faversham and plays Irish Tenor banjo)

Guitarist Bernard Quenby gives guitar lessons and advertises from a Canterbury number 01227 731085 so may know the local scene.

Lkewise bodhran player Andy Renshaw 01227 361248

Tenterden, the Vine session is the second Tuesday of each month- just after the Festival this time which runs from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th October (it's on Google) which has many sessions. Tuesday 9th at the Vine has the added bonus of David Jones fro mthe US staying on to guest at the session.
Please come and make yourself known to us all

Bardan, re your concerns over public transport:

Getting back from Rochester by train after eleven is not on (unless you want to wait until after half twelve for the last one).

You can get back comfortably from Maidstone East to Canterbury West (11.15 p.m.), and from Faversham to Canterbury East (also 11.15 p.m.).

P.S. I'm not really a train spotter!

Hi Kevin, while you have your almanack out can you advise Charlotte on the Tenterden thread how to get to Tenterden by pubic transport (spot the deliberate mistake)?
