06 Oct 07 - 06:32 AM (#2164987) Subject: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: Keef Hello....I'm in Pitlochry today, got 2 more weeks in Scotland, haven't found much music yet..everyone is watching television in the pubs. Where should I go for a bit of acoustic stuff and a bit of singing? I had a few weeks in Ireland...did find some good sessions but the curse of the plasma television seems to have damaged the craic! I went to Skye and I was impressed...lovely place. I'd like to spend a few more days around Perthshire before I hit the road again. Anything a bit closer..Perth, Dundee, smaller towns around the area? Keef |

06 Oct 07 - 04:47 PM (#2165377) Subject: RE: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: weerover Spent a weekend in Killin (eastern end of Loch Tay) a few weeks ago and encountered a ceilidh on the Friday night and a pub session on the Saturday, both prominently featuring on accordion a lass called Katie. I have her e-mail address and will try to find out if anything similar is on when next we fancy a weekend away. The pub session appears to be a regular feature (in the Fisher's Bar). It's not so very far from Pitlochry: about 5 miles down the A8, turn right on to the A827 for about another 30 miles, mostly along the north bank of Loch Tay. wr |

I've sent Arran a pm cos I'm guessing he lives on Arran? Perhaps we can meet up, I'm at Kildonan using the internet at the pub. That seems to have worked out well. Thanks again for the info Keef (from OZ) |
10 Oct 07 - 09:11 AM (#2167951) Subject: RE: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: Banjiman Keef, If you are around Glasgow on a Sunday night there is a great session at the Uisge Beatha on Woodlands Road 6pm - midnight with a big audience as well. Tell Phil we sent you! In fact we will also be there on 21st October...when Mrs Banjiman (Wendy Arrowsmith) is visiting the land of her birth (we live in Yorkshire). Clearly I play the banjo but she is actually pretty good...... Paul |

10 Oct 07 - 09:29 AM (#2167967) Subject: RE: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: DebC There is a lovely singaround at the Tass Pub in Edinburgh on FRiday nights hosted by George Duff. Also on Friday nights (I think this is still going), there is a session at the Waterloo Buffet on Princes St at the base of Calton Hill. My friend Alan Hunter runs that one. 10 Oct 07 - 09:34 AM (#2167976) Subject: RE: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: Keef I wish I was less geographically challenged! Busily scribbling down all these possibilities. Ferry to Arran was expensive so I'm staying a while, and the weather is nice also. |
10 Oct 07 - 09:35 AM (#2167978) Subject: RE: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: Banjiman Keef, In that case there is a good singaround at Burneston (1 mile off the A1 North Yorks) on Wednesday nights (our local club) or there is always something good on at The Black Swan in York on Thursdays, you could check their website. Cheers Paul |
10 Oct 07 - 09:40 AM (#2167988) Subject: RE: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: Keef Thanks Paul I will try and fit in one or the other. I did a spot at the 'first sunday?' somewhere near York about 6 weeks ago...great audience, lovely harmonies. I think Yorkshire is the best for harmony...seems to be less of it in Scotland from wot I've heard so far. Probly only got a few minutes left but I'll be baaaack! Keef |
10 Oct 07 - 11:31 AM (#2168076) Subject: RE: Sessions/ singarounds in Scotland? From: Jack Campin The people at Newtongrange Folk Club (Thursday nights) can sing in harmony with you. It's the village I live in, but I don't go any more - it's a very large singaround so it's rather slow, and too much singer-songwriter stuff I don't need to hear more than once in a lifetime. But there are a few people there who know more traditional material. |
