09 Oct 07 - 10:05 AM (#2167231) Subject: Red Bull Stockport From: Les in Chorlton Is this the best Folk Club in Stockport, South Manchester or Cheshire? Excellent night last night with Grace Notes, they really do sing so well with an amazing collection of songs. Excellent support from residents Peter Hood and Lynda Edwardes. But what is going to happen to the building? |

09 Oct 07 - 11:21 AM (#2167274) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport From: Les in Chorlton It in a poor state of decoration, the back seems to be propped up and the toilets are in port-a-cabins in the car park, not that any of this spoiled an excellent night of music |
10 Oct 07 - 07:53 AM (#2167897) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport From: GUEST,Peter - Red Bull Stockport Aw Les, Thanks! You can come again anytime! It was a brilliant night wasn't it? Any one with a club should book Grace Notes! Three lovely singers and musicians and such nice people too! As for the pub, who knows? I've given up bothering about it. IT may close it may not, doesn't matter really. We'll move somewhere else if we have to. Cheers Peter |
10 Oct 07 - 09:33 AM (#2167975) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport From: DebC I wish I wish I wasn't three thousand miles away!! I am sure that it was a grand night. I am slowly beginning a collection of favorite folks clubs and the Red Bull is certainly among the top five. If you do find yourself in Stockport on the club night, do go. Singer's nights are just as grand a s guest nights. Debra Cowan www.DebraCowan.com |

11 Oct 07 - 05:49 AM (#2168653) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport From: GUEST,Peter- Stockport Since me and a few friends started the Red Bull folk club there have been many different people who've come and gone. Some we were introduced to as the new owners, "We want to keep it as it is" sort of types, they just disappear without ever setting foot behind the bar. Others, " Ave gort big plans fer in ere" , oh yeah? Never seen again. I think there must be more dreamers in the pub game than any other. I'm told anyone selling a Ferrari has the same problem, never affected me an me Volvo. The building is being renovated, it needs a lot of work. What happens at the end is anybodies guess. There's some interested people but there always is! See above. Yep there are some great old pubs in Stockport, we've lost a lot though. I guess it's the same everywhere. I'd say at least one in ten has gone in the last 10 years. Maybe more. How is it where you are? Lots of wine bars though! Cheers Peter |
11 Oct 07 - 06:06 AM (#2168663) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport From: Les in Chorlton The Old Pubs The're knockin 'em down And plastics all the go Who wrote that then? The Red Bull is a great building and an excellent pint, so the future will be uncertain. It doesn't seem like the best used piece of space so things could get better. Does it really need a second bar in the folk club room? Home brewed beer crystal clear Drink your glasses down Sup the brew until you drink enough to drown |
11 Oct 07 - 08:38 AM (#2168731) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport From: GUEST,Henryp John Tams has been singing Old Pubs recently. It's by Johnny Handle and it's in the Digital Tradition. But now here all the things have changed, And the streets are flattened down. And the people in the pubs have moved away Out to the edge of town, oh They're knockin' 'em down The old pubs, Around the town The old pubs, Plastic's all the go. |

11 Oct 07 - 03:13 PM (#2169016) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport From: GUEST,Peter Stockport Les, No it doesn't need the extra bar. The room would be better without it. So, the change could be for the good as you say. We'll just have to wait and see! Anyway, while I remember... We have Andy Clarke on Monday, another brilliant night coming up! Pay on door or phone or mail me for a ticket! Peter |
