10 Oct 07 - 11:25 PM (#2168527) Subject: Tune Req: Ukranian folk song forgotten From: GUEST,TIA Almost 30 years ago, I used to play with a college friend who was a Ukie. He taught me a song about a peasant girl abducted by cossacks that I have forgotten except for the title and a snatch of the refrain. The girl's name was Helen (in English) or Halyu (abominable spelling no doubt) in Ukie. I will provide a phonetic (and surely innacurate) rendition of the refrain, and hope that someone could please point me to the actual song: tune, chords, accurate lyircs (and world peace, of course): Oy te Halyu Halyu molodaya ob manule Halyu zobrale saboyu Apologies to Ukie speakers who I have just appalled.... Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about (I sure don't)? Thanks, Tim |
