Ray,

RTE broadcast the final Transatlantic Sessions program tonight. This is probably the one BBC4 will bw showing next week.

I've been tuned to Emmylou since.

Best night's television in a long time.

There is a dvd floating around on the torrent sites of Emmylou backed by Spyboy in 2000, which includes the great Buddy Miller.

Thanks Effsee, I'll have to learn to check the TV listings more thoroughly - seems I've missed the whole 'TTS' series! :-(

Does anyone know if there are any DVDs available of past series?

Musically speaking, I've never "got" Emmy Lou! Indeed, the only thing of hers that really moved me was the "Love Hurts" duet with Gram Parsons.

Backwoodsman....You have been very fortunate.

This series is nothing like TTS 1 or 2.
Although all the artists are excellent in their own right, the series lacks life and spontaneity, "over production" means that the performances are swamped with sound.

Simply entertainment for an audiance which doesn't understand or care for traditional music.

"Worth watching, if only to see Albert Lee"

Well, he ain't as purty as Emmy, but his playing just defies belief! A musician's musician without a doubt, a true star.

And a Brit! "And did those feet, in ancient time........." Etc.

You can complain about the details as much as you like (twee etc) but Emmy has to be one of the greatest singers ever.

Enjoyed the more folky/ bluegrassy stuff most but her voice just transcends whatever style she is doing........if you don't get her you ain't got no soul!

the inept wankers at BBC4
were starting transmission of all programmes
about 90 secs ahead of schedule..!!!

that'll explain why many people who set video timers
missed the begining of each emmy lou show..

not the first time this has happened..

can't the BBC afford more accurate clocks..???

So, is the ELH on on the 19th and 20th, too? If so, I will add the date to the thread title, just to clarify. (Not living over there, I am not familiar with the programs and/or when they run.) Thanks!

Kat,

I think 19th and 20th refer to the Transatlantic Sessions which were referred to above.

The Emmylou program is being repeated tonight and inh the early hours of tomorrow morning (apart from the Old Grey Whistle Test footage which I messed up on recording).

Also tomorrow night is Dylan night on BBC4, but I think there is another thread about this.

"Sorry to be thick Bonzo3legs, but what the hell is 'twee'?"

Wiktionary says:-
"Overly quaint, dainty, cute or nice."
Example - Those Beatrix Potter animals are a little twee for my taste.

Some might think Emmy was twee, but she'll do for me. Makes a wonderful change from the endless, stultifyingly boring muzak we get rammed down our throats (or do I mean ears? LOL!) most of the time - if I never hear Beyonce, Rhianna, James Blunt or their multitudinous clones again it'll be way too soon.

Mind you, give a listen to One EskimO's 'Candi' - great late-night driving music. (IMHO, of course).

She was great with Spyboy, and played a mean rhythm guitar to Buddy Miller's lead! Emmylou was fine in the programme, it was the backing musicians I found to be twee.

To "ms lemon" - no, Emmylou is not the one who had her hair down to
her ankles - that was Crystal Gayle - and there is no comparison
what-so-ever between the two musically.

Unlike most men I have known throughout my life, especially musicians, I have a STRONG preference for the female voice amd Emmylou Harris is the pinnacle. There are other favorites of mine up there, too, but no one - in my opinion - is better than Emmylou. In fact, I would go so far as to write that if I could only choose one artist - and no others - to have to listen to for the rest of my life it would be Emmylou Harris. Cheers.

Didn't see the concert but at a guess might it have been 'For No One'? She has recorded it and she did a wonderful version on the '95 Transatlantic Sessions.

Great song, for my money their best love song.

To Guest: well, I don't know about "best love song," although you are entitled to your favorites. Emmylou also recorded, "Here, There
And Everywhere" on the Luxury Liner album - certainly one of the top Beatle love songs they wrote.

Thinking of love songs that Emmylou recorded; in my humble opinion the most unhearlded and underplayed duet in country music is the song, "That Lovin' You Feeling" that she did with Roy Orbison - what a gem! Cheers

Buspassed,

You are correct.

For no one was the song included in "The Ten Commandments".
