I won't tell you what it is just yet but I am sure you can find it. Scottish band. Had a piper. Very unusual vocals. Excelent production quality and, certainly in parts, it must have been a folk song! Includes the lines I hear him playin' his bagpipes every mornin' I think that it's a warmin' he's gathering the clan. Soon you'll hear the sound of people shouting you will see the claymores in their hands if you knew the reason for their fighting you would never understand. and While he was fightin' his rival clan McGregor Dishonour he would never the tartan of his clan. See if you can find it and, hand on heart, say it is a bad song:-) An easier one or two, because I will tell you, is Marianne Faithfull. I was looking for 'The ballad of Lucy Jordan' today, one of my facourite songs, when I stumbled across Ms Faithfulls website. Some absolutley stunning stuff on there. Most remarkable is the difference in her voice from the 60's to now - and she puts it all down to smoking and other abuses! On her latest album one of the contributiors, can't remember which, insisted she went back to singing lessons to re-gain her upper register. I look forward to hearing it. Her 'new' voice makes a stunning job of Lucy Jordan as well as things like Pirate Jenny. Her old voice, I never realised, is wonderful doing things like 'Sally free and easy' and 'Sister Morphine'. Slack day if you hadn't already gathered but a wonderful one in musical terms. So, don't just look at mine! Get looking for some yourself. Don't necesarily look for 'folk' (whatever that is!) Try to find the first one I mentioned. Have a listen to the second. But, most of all, find your own and be prepared to hear some surprises. Enjoy. :D |
