19 Oct 07 - 10:15 AM (#2174470) Subject: Cartouche (gig dates) From: Cap n' Ella I probably should have given this the prefix 'blatant plug' but here goes anyway ~ For those of you who don't know, Cartouche are Lesley Massey & Tony Petty aka Capella (and that's not easy to say after a few speckled hens!) plus the wonderful Mike Nicholson. We've been encouraged to start doing a few gigs, apparently some people seem to think it's not a bad noise! (well ok, Mike's plumber actually), and he did have his head down the toilet at the time! But anyway if you can make it to any of the following we'd love to see you there and of course the support would be really appreciated. Weds 7th Nov 07 ~ The Tudor Barn Folk Cub Eltham Mon 3rd Dec 07 ~ The Fox & hounds Romney St Fri 14th Dec 07 ~ Seaford Folk Club Sat 8th March 08 ~ Lewis Arms Folk Club Sun 1st June 08 ~ Horsham Folk Club |

20 Oct 07 - 04:48 AM (#2175143) Subject: RE: Cartouche (gig dates) From: Richard Bridge I strongly recommend this trio. So nice to hear vocal harmony as the focal point of what a band do, although it gets harder and harder to arrange harmony, as you add more voices, to avoid a slightly ecclesiastical flavour in the mix. That, however, is fairly in the folk tradition in that most singers of English music learned to sing at church, and you can hear the ecclesiastical flavour in a lot of what the Watersons used to do. Not that I mean to imply that Cartouche only or even mainly sing traditional English song - I have not heard everything they do, but what I have heard covers a considerable range of sources of inspiration. The only thing that worries me is whether the expression "Folk Cub" implies that a Lepe of Leopards or TDL will be present at Eltham. |

We will however be at Fox and Hounds, possibly in charge of the night. |

09 Nov 07 - 05:17 PM (#2190148) Subject: RE: Cartouche (gig dates) From: Cap n' Ella Thanks to everyone who came along to see us at the Tudor barn last night for our first full gig, the support we had was brilliant and we're really grateful for all the lovely comments we've received. Now for a rather large fly in the ointment! although those who were at the gig last night will already know, There is definately another Cartouche out there and very good they sound, they're a Folk Rock band from the Otley Area and stalwarts of the Otley festival they changed their name a couple of years ago to Cartouche from being the Pigs Ear band. So having been soundly beaten to the post for the name we will of course Start looking for another but in the meantime, aplogies to the clubs who have already booked us (I'll be confirming this by E mail to each and all) and if anyone from Cartouche gets to read this, I hope you haven't been too confused by the sudden rush of bookings down south! Tony ps: any suggestions for a name will be greatly appreciated! |

10 Nov 07 - 05:49 AM (#2190390) Subject: RE: Cartouche (gig dates) From: Richard Bridge Trident? 6 left feet? Intide? Triptych? (I quite like that because some of your harmonies do have a rather ecclesiastical feel and it calls to mind the triptych that was over the altar at school) - oh bum, a quick google shows a band of that name in Chicago) There is a website with a band name generator on it somewhere. |
