Woman's Hour on BBC Radio4 had a superb 9 minute item on Appalachian ballad singing on Friday morning, featuring Sheila Kay Adams and other singers from North Carolina. This can be heard for the next week on the BBC website.

So can anyone string beans and play a banjo at the same time?

Well worth a listen.

You get more real trad song and music on Woman's Hour than you do on Smooth Operations' Mike Harding show....
