From: topical tom I realize that this was requested already a while ago with few results but I was wondering if anyone has found out more information since. My mother used to sing this song back in the forties and fifties. She used to sing snatches of unusual songs.Anyway, part of it went like thisHe went in like a lion, a wild raging lion, "lots of forgotten words" when a great big cup of mocha, hit him on the cocoa, followed by some huckleberry jam. He went in like a lion, a wild raging lion but whenshe got through he came out like a lamb. Perhaps an old music hall song? |

There seem to be a lot of recordings by Bill Murray (1920) available (others too) (on one site you can get the song for $0.99). Scroll down the page a little to find the title listing. http://www.archive.org/details/BillyMurray_part2 This was recorded by the hillbilly group Carolina Buddies around 1931, and in the 70s, fiddler Norman Woodlieff was quoted as claiming the writer credit on the song. No doubt he wrote it down from listening to the Billy Murray record! |
