Obit: Roger Hahn (3 Nov 2007)

Hello all,
I have been asked to pass on the sad news that Roger Hahn, one of the Pennymoor crew and fine fiddle player gave up, in the early hours of this morning, on his battle with asbestosis, which he so courageously fought, and has gone to join that great session in the sky. Sincere condolences to Claire, his family and friends. Another great guy who will be sadly missed. As yet I have no further info on funeral arrangements.
Cheers, Lucy

Sad news indeed. I shall always think of him when I hear someone play 'Midnight on the Water', which seemed to be one of his favourites.
Right now, in my head, I can hear Roger playing 'Ashokan Farewell'.

So.... Farewell, Roger.... now 'Set 'em up Joe'.

Was so sorry to hear of his passing this morning, we've had a candle lit for Roger for the past few weeks and have raised a glass to him tonight. Our thoughts are with Clare and Roger's family.

While we were at Bampton last weekend Clare was hoping that a recording of Roger playing Midnight on the Water would be found. I think she'd hoped to play it to him in the hospice, but I'm certain that Clare would be glad of a copy for herself at some point. Maybe if anyone has one it could be passed on?

I only found out he was ill a very few weeks ago because I missed Pennymoor this year so this is a total shock.
Claire must be devastated. My best thoughts to her and both their families.

Like Vectis, I only recently heard that he was ill. He was a really talented and warm person, his fiddle making and repair work of a great standard for someone who was, I believe, self taught. When he was in the Royal Dockyard we used to meet up for a lunchtime tune...I'm just stunned that he's gone.

My thoughts are with Claire, Mary and the rest of his family.

I won't be able to attend but I will stop and remember him sitting on the floor playing Moonlight On the Water at Pennymoor in the wee small hours of the morning.
