BS: The First Noel, the Angels did say...

.... batten down the hatches and get out of the way.

Stay safe everyone. Hey, it's not a BAD storm, but, here, anything over 100kph blowing from the south when it's not below 0C can be a problem. We get lots of storms with wind, but they are usually blowing north and the temp is usually well below 0C.

Wish I was a roofing contractor!

It looks like you're getting a direct hit - stay safe, stock up on brewskis and catch the weekend football games.

Becca.... are you not getting some wind and rain now? Here's my closest radar.

It's raining a bit now and the wind doesn't look too bad yet but from what I heard this morning all hell is supposed to break loose around 3-4pm today.

No football for me, bobad. But I am going to a hockey game tonight

Sins has taken Seamus for the night so I'm going to go home and curl up with my 3 cats. Can't get more snuggly than that! Well, I suppose you could with more cats... :-)

You think a hockey arena is gonna be a safe place, Gnu?

Be careful, buddy.

The Fundy Coast (Lorneville N.B.) at around 11:00 A.M this morning.

waiting for the Noel

You can't tell from this photo but the winds were coming off the Bay at about 50 mph. I had to hang to the tripod to keep it from getting blown over, and I have a heavy duty Manfrotto tripod at that.

Did you see the footage of that scrap? UnREAL! I have never seen players skate FULL speed and launch themselves into the other bench like that!!!

This is the MILD account.

Sounds like a game I witnessed last season. Except that our local team is AHL and thus the older boys should know better. By the end there were only 3-4 guys on each bench..the rest had been thrown out of the game.

Get ready Gnu. You may get more than they had predicted. This pasted note from my brother in law who lives on the East coast just outside Dartmouth.

Adrien,
We are in hurricane status but the center of the storm is now headed for the west side of the Bay of Fundy so we shall be spared somewhat. They are now anticipating 13 to 14 metre (approximately 45 ft) waves on the eastern shore. If we have an easy night I'll go down to the shore and take some pictures in the morning.

Brother Dan

Not to bad here at 9:45 p.m. on the south coast of N.B. on the Bay of Fundy .... windy, some light rain, but nothing abnormal for this time of year .... in fact the storm has been downgraded somemwhat with winds reaching around 40-60 .... not much different than what I experienced earlier today at Lorneville.

Hope you are all safe and well, and that all important things are intact.

Here in the UK, we're having our St Martin's Summer a week early, clear blue skies and warm days. Even last evening wasn't too chilly. Seems you've got our share of the wind.

Take care.

Well, it's 05:20 and I didn't see any really big rain or wind. Oh, every now and then through the night the rain and wind sounded bad, but for only a minute or two.

I flicked on the tube an hour ago and checked The Weather Network. They were still flashing red warnings and saying that the winds will get even worse as the storm leaves the area and they said there were many power outages, flooding, etc... even had a reporter "live" in Moncton and she was dire in the rain and the wind. I looked out the window and it was kinda nice. I went outside and had a tea and a smoke... in my tee shirt.

Now, it might have been bad in other parts of the Maritimes, but, so far, it's been just a bit of weather here in Moncton. All about selling advertising slots?

Anyone get hit bad?

We got howling winds and mucho rain, lost some more trees, which thankfully didn't fall on anything crucial. A thirty pound concrete bird bath was blown off my deck rail.

Power was out until yesterday at 4:30 pm.

WOW! You have concrete birds there? Cool. I won't ask how they are able to fly. Some things are best left unasked.

VERY CAREFULLY

They fly, uh... heavily. Hunters tell me they are very dangerous birds - shrapnel when you shoot 'em, y'know.

Yer all nuts. It was one of those items you make out of rhubarb leaves and cement - I've made quite a few of them for garden edging - bunch of them in a row looks like a stegosaurus spine sticking out of the ground, and they warm up nicely as mini-climate for tender fleurs, as well.

Woke up this morning to heavy winds and rain - seems to be dying down a bit but still not enough to make me think about taking Seamus to the beach, although if he gives me that reproachful look once more I reckon the guilt might get to me!

More windy, wet weather here in Maine. We moved my dad's old car so the elm won't smash it when the rest of the branches fall. No concrete birds here (Peace! Join Kendall in the cellar!); the bantams insisted on going out in their fenced yard, then ran, squawking, into the doghouse igloo where it's dry.

Sorry for not reporting earlier. NB had some power outages (10,000 or so) but few near Moncton as the eye of the storm passed just a bit west of us. I saw on TV that NS had close to 200,000 without power for a while.

All in all, it wasn't near as bad as the TV media played it up to (may)be. Of course, ya just never know, eh? Better to be safe than sorry.

Cement has a sand base, concrete includes aggregates. Whichever is used in the rhubarb bird baths, either will do for you, Sir, to ground you well down in the cellar. Humph!

Concrete, cement - it sez ready-mix mortar mix on the bag, just add water - has coarse sand in it. Don't forget a layer of chicken wire or net between your two layers of concrete - makes a big difference in strength.

Beer, I know Lawrencetown beach, but it still has sand, I thought - it gets quite rocky in winter anyway. Queensland beach has been pretty much destroyed, along with the road down there.

Ahem... forgive me, but, as an inebriated engineer, I must point out that "concrete" is a mixture of aggregates and cement. Cement is a binding agent. Cement is cement. In the commonly known "concrete", Portland cement is the binding agent. When you "Crazy Glue", that is the cement. When you need more glue from the bartender to hold the party together, that is crazy. It just means you are plastered.

I think the beach rocks, too, Beer.

"It just means you are plastered. "

That is not concrete, the city of Portland OR cement. If you are doing the work in France, it is CaSO4ยท0.5H2O. Tell ME I don't understand antlered animals.
