07 Nov 07 - 09:22 PM (#2188689) Subject: RE: BS: Rats! Too bad they can't shoot straight. From: CET I'm afraid I don't get a big chuckle out of wishing that the Taliban could shoot straight. Those are my comrades, and quite possibly people I know, serving at the Forward Operating Base. If the Taliban were capable of accurate and effective rocket fire, those soldiers would be the ones getting killed and wounded. A soldier accepts that risk, but I am less than amused by civilians sitting comfortably at their computers in Canada wishing (even in jest) that the enemy could be more effective. |

08 Nov 07 - 04:03 AM (#2188787) Subject: RE: BS: Rats! Too bad they can't shoot straight. From: Jim Lad Peter Mackay and the Conservative Government inherited the Afghanistan Mission from the previous (Liberal) government. He is a decent man and has shouldered this burden well. Not the kind of man who deserves this treatment. |

08 Nov 07 - 05:44 AM (#2188825) Subject: RE: BS: Rats! Too bad they can't shoot straight. From: gnu As for me being potrayed as someone who is wishing harm to ours in uniform, I am less than amused that someone would take my obvious intention and twist it into such. I come from a military family. Canada went in to "fight terrorism" but is now there to fight the Taliban, a religeous sect, in a civil conflict. This while Pete and the rest of them sit in Parliament and talk about when the mission will end based on dates and budgets. Makes me sick! As for this mess being inherited, two wrongs don't make a right. Our men and women in uniform do not derserve this treatment. BTW, I DO know people serving there. I wish they could home with Pete. |

08 Nov 07 - 07:05 AM (#2188856) Subject: RE: BS: Rats! Too bad they can't shoot straight. From: Bee JimLad, Peter Mackay is my MP. He has paid absolutely no attention to his own riding, and has simply followed Harper's every directive without considering in the least its effects on Atlantic Canada. Harper dislikes Atlantic Canada and has made it obvious since before he was even elected. I think he must been taunted by a Bluenose as a child or something. MacKay's behaviour wrt Belinda Stronach was laughable, even pretending his neighbour's dog was his own in order to gain sympathy. He has betrayed people (remember Orchard?) all the way to the top. I wouldn't trust him for a minute. Of course I don't actually wish he'd been shot, but I wish the experience of a close call would also be a wake-up call for him, because wrt to Afghanistan and the Canadian government's relationship to the present US gov't, I think the Conservatives are in over their heads and taking the rest of us with them. |

08 Nov 07 - 08:03 AM (#2188897) Subject: RE: BS: Rats! Too bad they can't shoot straight. From: GUEST Without the foreign troops, Afghanistan would be partitioned, and embroiled in a civil war between the Pushtun tribes, with the non-Pushtun tribes standing aside, or taking part, as their own internal politics dictated. All this would be paid for by the sale of heroin. That would irritate Afghanistan's neighbors (particularly Iran and Pakistan, which already have a serious drug addiction problem), as well as the rest of the world. You either take care of it now, or deal with it later. stop pissing on people who risk their lives to deal with a situation. |

08 Nov 07 - 11:22 AM (#2189024) Subject: RE: BS: Rats! Too bad they can't shoot straight. From: Jim Lad Thanks to Paul Martin, Canada's role in Afghanistan is much more than it needed to be. However, Canada did take part in the destruction of the country and has a duty to rebuild. Given the number Canadian of fatalities, I'd have to say that Canada has paid in full. The Government has found a way out. The mission will not be extended without a consensus from all parties. Until then, we are stuck with hearing the only rhetoric that will keep Canadian Soldiers alive. What do you suppose would happen if the Government started to dither on this? Bee: Sorry his ministry is keeping him away so much. Gary Lunn (another minister) is my MP. I've only spoken to him once since he was elected and the man seems to be totally exhausted. |

08 Nov 07 - 04:09 PM (#2189243) Subject: RE: BS: Rats! Too bad they can't shoot straight. From: Bee Hah! No, I'm capable of admiring even the occasional politician, if he sticks to his guns, believes he's trying to help people, and doesn't dirty the good name of weasels. I've been known to vote for every major party at least once, because of the person running. However, the present so-called Conservatives give me the heebie jeebies. They ooze self-righteousness, practice bull-headedness, and tend to stick it to the local population if they don't like their voting pattern. And I don't forget that among them they have MPs deluded enough to think dinosaurs were around in Noah's time and that there really was a Flood. |
