19 Nov 07 - 06:33 PM (#2197877) Subject: New Old-Time Session in East of Scotland From: GUEST,Downgirl Anyone interested in old-time music in Scotland? We are trying to get an old-time music session going as the old-time scene here seems pretty quiet - even non-existent- at present. There are, however, lots of people in Scotland who do enjoy listening to Appalachian and old-time music.. So ...... Sara Grey and I have taken the bull by the horns and are inviting all old- time players ( fiddles, banjos, mandolins etc) and singers who would like to get together and share some tunes and songs to a session. The date: Tuesday 4th December. The venue: "The Village Inn " in Milnathort, Kinross-shire - just off the M90 motorway between Perth and Edinburgh. The Inn is in Westerloan in the middle of the village. Time: from 8pm onwards. If you enjoy playing or singing old-time, we'd love to see you there. Who knows - it might even become a semi-regular occurrence! |

Wishing you and Sara the best of luck with the venture. I'm also VERY familiar with the VA in Milnathort too! Jack Beck |

It unfortunately clashes with my regular Tuesday session so might be a bit difficult for me but I know a couple of other musicians who are particularly interested in old-timey so will let them know. Best wishes RS |

Will keep you posted here if there is to be a follow up. It really depends on the response to this first one. Also hi to Scotus - long time no see! Very envious of your current location, amongst all that wonderful music. When are you back on these shores again? I enjoyed our sessions in the VI during the Milnathort festival. |

So the next one's Friday 16th (I can't be at that one but hope to make it some time). |

14 Jan 09 - 10:44 AM (#2539655) Subject: RE: New old-time session in East of Scotland 4 Dec 07 From: GUEST,BanjoRay I told Pete Budd in Edinburgh about the session - he'd never heard of it, but said he'd check it out on Friday. Pete's an excellent OT fiddler, so it should be good. Wish I wasn't in Yorkshire! Cheers Ray |
