Lyr Req: Pigmeat (Leadbelly)

Tbere were threads about this a while ago but maybe some new 'catters can help. I can understand most of the verses except the one starting 'You can take me to the mountains...' There's then something which I've seen transcribed as 'Take a pole and try it' or 'Cold from China'. Both unlikely: I think it's some breed of pig but I've forgotten the reference. Has anyone but Lead Belly recorded it? And most importantly...what's it all about? Bound to be sexual!

Poland China is a breed of hog, white with a black band around the center of the body.

Gonna kill a Poland China, make me a pigskin glove
Gonna cut a sow's breast, mama, make a pallet for the gal I love

So sang Koerner, Ray, and Glover on their Electra LP "Lots More Blues Rags And Hollers". The song is called "Fine Soft Land" and is credited to Dave "Snaker" Ray. According to the sleeve notes, "This song came to me during a dream in which I was walking upstairs."
These guys were kind of a Leadbelly tribute band in them days. Some of their songs were Leadbelly covers and some (like Fine Soft Land?) were Leadbelly pastiches.

Thanks. I'm sure the words are 'Poland China'. Just a refresh to see if anyone out there knows what Pigmeat (Papa) is all about.

Re Pigmeat lyrics.

Mmmm? again a verse that is difficult to decipher.

I always thought it was , you can take me to the mornin' i.e have sex all night, although I have seen mournin' market etc.

The bit about China (which seems to pop up in various songs), I always sung...You can take a poll and count it, I'll pass the test jest (just) anywhere, but then again I am notorious for getting it wrong, one only has to view the mess I made of I'm Sorry Mama, to which 12 stringer valiantly came to my rescue.

Cheers, Beeds
