Would like to learn this one. I have a recording of the melody but need the lyrics. Any takers of the task?

Could this be it? I found this by going to the search box, in the upper right hand corner of this page and typing [Ireland, Mother Ireland]. The tune is also there in the DT, if you want to see if it is the same.

Thanks katlaughing, but that isn't the song...I too did a database search as well as checking some other Irish music sites but to no avail...

More info I forgot in my first thread:

Ireland, Mother Ireland (O'Reilly/Loughborough)

I heard it sung at somewhere (perhaps on Fordham Univ's Irish music program when I lived in White Plains, NY) and to the best of my memory the chorus contains the following:

If you sigh we hear you.
If you weep, we weep.
...etc....
Ireland, Mother Ireland....
...Ever shall we hold you
Dearest, best of all.

Hope that helps narrow the search.

Words by P. J. O'Reilly
Music by Raymond Loughborough

1922

Oh, land of love and beauty
To you our hearts are wed
To you in lowly duty
We ever bow the head
Oh, perfect loving mother
Your exiled children all
Across the sund'ring seas to you
In fond devotion call

Chorus
If you sigh, we hear you
v If you weep, we weep
In your hours of gladness
How our pulses leap!
Let what may befall
Ever shall we hold you
Dearest - best of all

Dear isle across the sea
Dear loving land of ours
May your days be sunny
And your way - a way of flowers!
Wide though we be scattered
By alien vale and hill
All the love you gave to us
We keep and cherish still

Can someone help me with background on the lyrics to Ireland Mother Ireland? The words were by PJ O'Reilly and the music by a great uncle of mine, Raymond Loughborough. I believe there was some information given on this recently and I'd be grateful if it could be repeated. It's a great song and the Three Irish tenors sing it.

Hi Paul. You can start HERE for a short discussion on the song. Also, if you go to the Forum home and look at the top of the columns you will see a search engine that will search both the DT and the forum discussions. Typing in "Mother Ireland" with the parens will lead you to some other references. Good Luck.

All the best,

Mick

I got a request for sheet music for this song, and I can't find it on Levy or Indiana University, or through a few other sources. Can anybody help locate a copy?

Hello to all,

I have a sincere request. I belong to a choir that sings international music. We have a warm and charming tenor gentlemen who would like to sing Ireland Mother Ireland for this St. Patricks Day concert

His name is Liam Barrett and he is from Dublin. He is 89 years old and spends part of his year in Ireland and part of his year in Florida. This song is very dear to him but we need the sheet music for his accompanist.

Please, can someone help?

Thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration
