03 May 99 - 06:18 AM (#75260) Subject: Lyr Add: BYE BYE MY ROSEANNA From: Brian Peters I just clicked on Joe's link and realised that all of the message I've written is pretty well redundant - you all knew it already. Anyway, for those of you that have missed it, allow me to direct you to the incredible rendition by the Bright Light Quartet on Southern Journey Vol. 1 from the Alan Lomax Collection (Rounder CD 1701). The harmony is sublime. Come to that the whole CD is incredible, as are all the other volumes I've heard so far. Here are the verses Bright Light sing - with quite a bit of repetition of verses.
Sweet Roseanne, sweet Roseanne,
Sweet Roseanne, my darling child,
Bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye,
The steamboat coming round the bend,
Don't you want to go home on your next payday?
I'm going away but not to stay. |
