There are a lot of photos, but if you have the patience, there are some that are just absolutely sturning. Some of them are confusing until you realize that he also did some underwater photography. He served as 1st Mate on Texaco tankers during WWII. The only time he was ever in the Pacific was one trip through the Panama Canal to deliver fuel oil to the Galapagos. It was also the only place he was ever able to go ashore, since the Merchant Marines didn't have security clearance to go ashore in European ports. He still talks about the experience. |
